Why Edinburgh?

Edinburgh has consistently been named one of the best places to live and work in the UK. Scotland was also voted the most beautiful country in the world in 2017 by The Rough Guide. The city is notable for its fine Georgian and Victorian architecture, striking parks and medieval skyline.

Situated on the shores of the Firth of Forth and set on seven hills, Edinburgh City contains a royal palace, a cliff-top castle and an extinct volcano. The city has a modern dynamism juxtaposed with historical cobbled streets and is home to four universities, the infamous Edinburgh Fringe Festival, world-class galleries, theatres, concert halls and shopping streets.

A city of culture

Edinburgh is an international city. People from all over the world have settled here giving rise to a wide variety of restaurants, cafés and bars with a strong ethnic flavour. The city is compact and easily navigable by foot yet it has all of the advantages of a major European capital.

A city for business

Edinburgh is also a city for business. It is the second largest financial centre in the UK with a thriving, diverse economy and a highly educated, motivated workforce. Several major global financial institutions - banks, insurance companies, investment houses and brokers - have their HQ in Edinburgh.

A city of innovators

The city, and indeed the University, are home to some instrumental thinkers, innovators, scientists and business people. Dolly the Sheep, the world’s first cloned mammal was born in Edinburgh University which is also home to the most powerful computer in the UK. The university boasts many notable alumni including Charles Darwin, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Robert Louis Stevenson. The Business School itself is also the alma mater of some well-known entrepreneurs including John Boyd Dunlop of Dunlop Rubber and Arthur Young of Ernst & Young.

Scotland

Beyond the city boundaries, Scotland is a land of rugged beauty, one of Europe's last great wildernesses with mountains, lochs and seven thousand miles of stunning coastline. Within only a few miles of the School lies the rolling countryside of East Lothian, with beaches, villages and famous golf courses all of which are well worth a day trip or weekend visit. Edinburgh's neighbouring cities boast plenty of attractions: St Andrew's golf courses, Glasgow's ship heritage and Aberdeen’s stunning granite architecture are all easily accessible by the frequent bus or train services. Scotland is equally famous for its many beautiful isles dotted around the country which offers a welcome, relaxing break from the bustling city life. The landscape of this striking, diverse country is ideally suited for the outdoor sporting life. Skiing, surfing, hiking, mountain biking and kayaking are just some of the exhilarating activities on offer, most just a few minutes from your doorstep.
