Introduction

Overview

With more than 3,500 students and 150 faculty members, CHSS is the largest of the nine Colleges which make up the University, distinguished by a rich tradition, commitment to heritage and innovation and a dedication to serving our community and the nation. It comprises 12 academic departments organized into two divisions, each led by Vice Dean as follows:

These departments offer 17 undergraduate degrees, a growing number of Master’s programs, as well as an established PhD program. The college offers state-of-the-art facilities, including a new high tech TV studio, media creativity lab, phonetics lab, geoinformatics lab, electroencephalography lab (EEG), linguistics lab, computer labs, amongst other.

The CHSS houses the recently established Emirates University Center for Public Policy and Leadership, with the objective of conducting specialized research on various aspects of public policy and leadership; developing an information bank; providing training and professional development programs for those working in the field of public policy, and promoting fruitful and cooperative relationships with the community and stakeholders.

Through a student-centred educational experience, the University develops the intellectual, practical, creative and leadership abilities of the nation's men and women while enhancing the cultural, social and economic growth.

Accreditation

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences acknowledges the value of international accreditation as a means of ensuring due recognition of the quality teaching and research that is carried out in the CHSS programs. A College Accreditation Committee has been set up to assist efforts of individual Departments to get their programs accredited, as well as to explore possibilities for institutional accreditation of the CHSS as a whole.

All CHSS programs are currently recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The Master of Governance and Public Policy (MGPP) degree aims to impart knowledge, skills, and analytic capability about the rational application of methods, practical tools and techniques in public governance including the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of public policy in the dynamic and complex era of globalization. The Program combines relevant contemporary theories, professional skills, practical knowledge, high-level research skills, and critical thinking to approach the questions of governance and policy management in the new millennium.
