The MA in English, Creative Writing and Literature tracks, introduces graduate students to advanced study in the art of language. Courses provide an opportunity for deep and sustained analysis of a variety of literary texts, emphasizing advanced critical and theoretical approaches. The program encourages students to work closely with faculty mentors and culminates in a substantial (and potentially publishable) independent project focusing on an area of the student’s interest and emerging expertise. Graduate students additionally have the opportunity to meet with nationally and internationally recognized authors through Brockport's visiting writers series, The Writers Forum.... [-]

Motivated students who want to pursue research careers should consider the combined degree in psychology. Not only do students get instruction in an intensive format, but they can earn their bachelor's and master's degrees in five years with a full-time commitment.

Students collaborate with faculty on a wide range of research, including; human learning, applied behavior analysis, language/memory of the aging, substance use in adolescence, and much more. This type of training helps our graduates get into successful research-oriented doctoral programs. Curriculum The program combines a solid undergraduate psychology education and advanced masters-level training in either general psychological research or clinical research.Our rigorous program develops applied and academic knowledge in the areas of biological, acquired or learned, social, developmental, and individual bases of behavior. Additionally, all students receive advanced training in research methods and statistics. Admission Requirements Admission to the combined program is selective, restricted to students with exceptional records, and subject to the availability of a faculty member able to serve as a thesis advisor. To be eligible for the combined BS/MA psychology program, students must attain: A minimum of 75 undergraduate credits by the end of 1st-semester junior year A minimum of one semester of PSH 399 by the end of 1st-semester junior year (with 'B' or higher) All PSH core and content courses by the end of 2nd-semester junior year 3.0 overall GPA 3.25 psychology GPA A faculty member willing to serve as graduate research mentor Deadline: November 1 of the student's Junior year... This combined degree program enables students to complete their Bachelors and Masters in Biology in an accelerated fashion, in as little as five years. [+]

This combined degree program enables students to complete their Bachelors and Masters in Biology in an accelerated fashion, in as little as five years. When qualified Brockport undergraduate Biology majors are admitted to this combined degree program, they may take up to 12 graduate credits of coursework in Biology, all at the undergraduate tuition rate. These credits may apply to undergraduate and graduate degree requirements simultaneously. Upon finishing all undergraduate degree requirements and graduating in good academic standing in the combined degree program, students matriculate directly into the Master of Science in Biology program.

The 60-credit Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Dance performance and choreography provides opportunities to work with national and internationally recognized dance makers, teachers and professionals. Recognized as a terminal degree, MFA study at Brockport merges a studio-centered curriculum in dance-making and dance technique, with studies in dance pedagogy, aesthetics, and production.

Upon completion of their degrees, Brockport MFA recipients go on to become college and university faculty; teaching artists; performers and choreographers; and dance administrators and private studio directors. MFA students and faculty establish a unique learning community of committed artists/scholars who are working to develop and sustain their careers and deepen their relationship to dance.... [-]

A Master of Fine Arts (MFA) is offered through a joint program with The College at Brockport and the Visual Studies Workshop, providing a unique opportunity for graduate studies. All of the courses for the MFA program are held at the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY. This interdisciplinary program reflects the diverse and hybrid nature of the field of Visual Studies with roots in art practice, history, and theory, film and museum studies, philosophy and psychoanalysis. The Visual Studies program emphasizes studio work in photography, digital imaging, film, video, multi-media, installation, and visual books and critical studies in the history and theory of these media.
