Introduction

The San Diego State University Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) Master’s Program is a leadership development program designed for busy working professionals from all over the world and delivered online in a small class setting, with one-week meet-ups on SDSU’s beautiful campus to start and finish the 18-month program. This degree is applicable to more than 100 hospitality and tourism-related industries and virtually any career path.

HTM Master’s courses are recorded weekly by distinguished professors and personalized to your specific aspirations and activities. The curriculum is a combination of foundational business acumen and innovative thinking that is changing the way organizations function, grow, and evolve. And if you enjoy TED Talks, you will love our guest video lectures from globally accomplished leaders.

The coursework amounts to a challenging but manageable 10-12 hours per week of reading, assignments, and forum discussions that can be completed on your own schedule. All of the program material incorporates real-world applications that you can apply the next day in your office.

The Payne School & HTM Master’s Story

Since 2001, the L. Robert Payne School of Hospitality & Tourism Management has gained significant recognition for producing outstanding graduates who serve the industry’s needs locally, nationally, and abroad.

The genesis of the Payne School, a public/private partnership, began in 1999 when SDSU began working with 40 prominent hospitality industry professionals to create a groundbreaking, industry-based bachelor’s degree program. After two years of planning, workshops, and focus groups with industry leaders, a unique and rigorous curriculum emerged as the HTM Undergraduate Program.

In 2010, our industry advisors called for a graduate program to hone the leadership and business skills of their seasoned talent and up-and-coming leaders. The HTM Master’s Program was created with one goal in mind: to produce innovative and highly effective leaders for the hospitality and tourism industry. The program defies the principles of traditional academia by creating a personalized educational experience while providing each student with the support, network and encouragement they need to thrive and succeed in the course, in their career, and in life.
