The College is guided by its stated mission and sustained by its vision: The College of Business and Public Administration (CBPA) is a unit of Eastern Washington University (EWU), a regional comprehensive public university located in Cheney and Spokane, WA, with programs offered throughout the state and online.

MISSION
The CBPA exists to develop students who think critically, act ethically, and contribute to evolving public and private sector environments. This mission is accomplished by:

  • Guiding diverse students in their quest to create meaningful roles in their professions and communities through education
  • Supporting research to maintain an involved and intellectually current faculty dedicated to teaching.
  • Offering inclusive intellectual and community engagement to enrich students and society through lifelong learning.

The College's vision is to have its programs in business, economics, public administration and planning recognized for their excellence and to be the college of first choice in the region educating public, private and non-profit leaders.

DungDung Chen; EnTie Commercial Bank in Spokane, WA and graduate of the EWU MBA program. We asked Dung why he chose to earn his MBA at EWU. He said "Because the lower cost of tuition was affordable and I have family in Spokane”. Regarding his MBA experience, Dung says, “I enjoyed the learning and leadership opportunities and teamwork aspect of the program. The class schedules were also really convenient”. When we asked Dung about the benefits of earning his MBA degree. He said “The MBA program taught me managerial skills and organizational skills that help me in my current work”. This is Dung Chen’s advice for current MBA students, "Build connections with classmates because they all have different backgrounds, experiences and skills that you can learn from".

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program is designed to provide widely varied educational opportunities in the fields of public and not-for-profit management. Graduate study opportunities are available for those currently employed as well as for recent graduates seeking a career in the public service. Both full-time and part-time study programs are available on a degree and non-degree basis. Students are encouraged to become aware of the public service environment, the values that guide public service and the critical and analytical skills necessary to formulate, implement and evaluate public service decisions. Program faculty, all of whom hold doctoral degrees and have public service management experience, have been selected from the several academic areas most pertinent to public sector applications. Adjunct faculty are highly trained, qualified and experienced academics and practitioners. The MPA Program is accredited by the NASPAA Commission on Peer Review and Accreditation and listed on the Annual Roster of Accredited Programs in conformity with NASPAA standards. Many social, physical, economic, technical and political issues in society cry out for definition and resolution. Among these are: The decline in central cities; The deterioration of neighborhoods; Inefficient and inequitable taxing and regulatory policies; Congestion and other problems of accessibility; The impact of growth and change; An erosion of natural resources; and Inefficient or absent human services. Urban and Regional Planning is one of society's means for addressing these problems in a creative, positive manner. Planning is a problem-solving profession that is concerned with the forces that influence the quality of life in the neighborhood, city, region, state, nation and world. Thus, planning provides a unique occupational avenue for those who desire a role in shaping a better future. The goal of EWU's Urban and Regional Planning program is to train competent professionals for careers in planning. To achieve this goal, the department stresses the acquisition of practical, analytical and organizational skills designed to aid the student in analyzing problems and organizing community activities to help solve problems. The combination of classroom instruction and applied planning field projects develops professional competence and ensures that each student has the requisite abilities to function within the profession after leaving the program.
