The Department of Economics at California State University, Fullerton offers a program leading to the Master of Arts Degree. The program offers a variety of features:Assistantships are available to qualified students.Regular research seminars are open to students and faculty.If all prerequisites have been met, the program can be completed in three semesters of full-time study or two and one-half years of part-time study.Classes are offered in the late afternoon and evenings to facilitate part-time study.The department is part of the well-known College of Business and Economics on the main campus. It has a full-time faculty of 30 who are active in teaching and research, and who maintain a close working relationship with graduate students. This program consists of 30-33 units and must be completed with a minimum GPA of 3.00. Any study plan course in which a D grade is received must be repeated with at least a C grade, regardless of overall grade-point average of the student.Students may obtain their degree either through a thesis exit track or an examination exit track. Students may also customize their program based on one of six area of interest. The Master of Science in Accountancy provides the conceptual understanding and technical competence for a career in professional accounting. Many employment opportunities include public accounting, industrial accounting and government. The program encompasses both a theoretical foundation in accounting and business administration as well as technical skills. Emphasis is placed on the development of a professional attitude and the capacity to deal with issues of accounting policy and ethics. The curriculum is designed for students with an undergraduate degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting. Students with a bachelor’s degree in a field other than business administration may meet this requirement by completing the Business Foundation block within the MBA along with the undergraduate accounting concentration courses.The curriculum requires 30 units beyond the baccalaureate degree which must be completed with a minimum GPA of 3.00. The study plan must include a minimum of 15 units at the graduate (500) level.Students in consultation with their accounting advisor will select 9 electives.
