The Barney School is located in West Hartford, CT, adjacent to the insurance and financial services centers in Hartford, CT. It is one of the seven colleges within the University of Hartford, and it is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Barney offers undergraduate degrees in Accounting, Economic & Finance, Insurance & Finance, Management, Marketing, and Entrepreneurial Studies. An Actuarial Science minor is also offered. And the University has a Pre-Law advising program.

At the graduate level, Barney offers an MBA, a Masters in Accounting & Taxation, dual degree programs such as MBA & MSAT and MBA & Master in Engineering, and post-graduate Certificates. Most of our MBA and MSAT courses can be taken totally online, totally in the classroom, or in any combination of both formats. Classroom courses are scheduled in the evenings so working adults can pursue their degrees as part-time students.

Dual Degrees, MBA and Masters in Engineering

This program is the first dual degree program in Connecticut in engineering and management, enabling full- and part-time graduate students to earn both a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) by taking a total of 63 credits. This is 18 fewer credits than if the degrees were pursued separately. This program is called Excellence in Engineering and Management, E2M... [+]

This program is the first dual degree program in Connecticut in engineering and management, enabling full- and part-time graduate students to earn both a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) by taking a total of 63 credits. This is 18 fewer credits than if the degrees were pursued separately. This program is called Excellence in Engineering and Management, E2M. This is a unique, three-way partnership between the Barney School of Business and the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture, and extends to third party-businesses in Greater Hartford. Coursework includes applied projects, for which students formulate marketing and business plans for area companies. Applicants must apply and be accepted to the graduate programs of both schools to participate in this program. Also, once enrolled, students must complete all coursework in both schools in order to obtain the the degrees. The University of Hartford, Barney School of Business offers a variety of programs for students seeking advanced education in the fields of Accounting and Taxation. Students can earn the master’s degree in as few as seven months, or at their own pace, and meet the 150-hour CPA licensing requirement. Our programs are taught by full-time resident faculty and adjunct faculty who have a wealth of knowledge in the field. Students can choose from online and in-class options and our rolling admissions process allows new students to enroll in the fall, spring, and summer terms. For students seeking certificate programs, our accounting certificate provides students who have an undergraduate degree in a field other than accounting the opportunity to take a series of essential undergraduate accounting courses. Students with a master’s degree in accounting, a JD degree, or who are current CPAs may take a series of graduate taxation courses in the Post-Graduate Taxation Certificate program. Master of Science in Accounting and Taxation – Financial/Assurance and Taxation Tracks The MSAT program is designed for students who seek to develop or advance a career in professional accounting or taxation in industry, public accounting, government, or not-for-profit organizations. The program of study meets the needs of students with undergraduate degrees in accounting who wish a fifth year of study to meet CPA licensing requirements, as well as those students with non-accounting or nonbusiness undergraduate degrees.
