Mission of AUC
The mission of the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine is to provide an excellent medical education to qualified students of diverse backgrounds. This is to be accomplished within an atmosphere of academic integrity and scholarship, which fosters the highest standards of professional ethics and competence.
History of AUC
1978: American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine is founded by the Tien family, upon a belief in the need for visionary, skilled, and compassionate doctors. The school is originally located on the island of Montserrat.
1995: Montserrat’s Soufrière Hills Volcano, which had been dormant throughout recorded history, comes to life in an eruption that leaves much of the island buried and the southern half of the island uninhabitable. AUC plans to relocate to St. Maarten.
1998: AUC completes a new multi-million-dollar teaching and learning facility featuring modern classrooms and laboratories, a virtual imaging anatomy lab, a microbiology lab, and a comprehensive medical library.
2002: AUC’s modern one and two-bedroom student dormitory are constructed.
2011: AUC is acquired by DeVry Education Group, one of the world's largest providers of education services.
2012: Work commences to construct a new academic building to house a simulation center, anatomy lab, and other spaces for teaching and learning.
