The university is located in central Sweden, in an area with a wealth of history and cultural heritage, and with an abundance of amazing natural beauty on its doorstep (picture traditional red-painted Swedish cottages with white-framed windows, nestled in the heart of a forest on the edge of a lake…): yet both its campuses are a mere two or so hours from the impressive Swedish capital, Stockholm.
With its bold development and approach to improving all forms of education, DU is leading the development of a revolutionary pedagogy called Next Generation Learning – a pedagogy that has opened the world to education in ways never experienced before.
Next Generation Learning – or NGL – is a form of learning that draws upon modern technology so that both alone and together with others, we are able to build on and create knowledge. NGL connects teachers with students, and students with other students, no matter where in the world they might be. It provides a wealth of resources to the university’s students on campus as well as those studying from the comfort of their own homes. It adapts to the learning style of the individual, to the lifestyle of the individual, and to the study goals of the individual as well.
In a world where access to knowledge exists at the touch of a button, DU is working to develop programmes and courses that equip students for a world that is ever-changing – where critical thinking and an awareness of the importance of knowledge play an increasingly important role.
Currently, DU offers over 1 200 courses, 40 Bachelor´s Degree programmes, and 15 Master´s Degree programmes. Hundreds of these courses, as well as 10 programmes, are taught entirely in English both on campus and online.
The heart and soul of DU is not only its faculty but also the more than 16 000 students who study at one of its two campuses in Borlänge and Falun or from the many countries they call home. This is possible thanks to our commitment to excellence in interactive web-based distance education. Alongside the many advancements in our online education, our physical campus continues to grow as well. In Falun, there is the new 4500 m2 library and in Borlänge the “Black Box” lab, which hosts many of our research facilities. Both on-campus and online, DU continues to evolve, and we welcome you to become one of our next generation of learners.
