Barcelona Graduate School of Economics
The Barcelona Graduate School of Economics is an institution for scientific cooperation for research and graduate education in economics and the social sciences. It was founded in July 2006 by four academic institutions (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, CSIC and CREI) whose reputations, faculty, and resources underpin the School and its activities. The Barcelona GSE is also supported by six private institutions: The Agbar Group, AXA Reseach Fund, Banc Sabadell, Caixa de Catalunya savings bank, "la Caixa" savings bank, and the FemCAT Foundation, as well as by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Catalan Government and the Barcelona City Council. It also receives significant funding from the "Consolider-Ingenio 2010" initiative of the Spanish Government, launched to promote research excellence.
The School is legally a private foundation and has been recognized by the Government of Catalonia as an Interuniversity Research Institute attached to the UPF and to the UAB. The founder and first Chairman was Prof. Andreu Mas-Colell.
The Barcelona Graduate School of Economics’ unique combination of public and private support provides it with deep roots in Barcelona’s academic and business communities and guarantees the future success of its master programs.
Barcelona GSE Mission
The Barcelona GSE is founded on the ideal of relentless pursuit of higher education and research excellence, and it is driven by a world-class faculty of academics in Economics and Finance.
The School aims to offer a wide range of professionally and academically-oriented degrees in economics and finance to graduate students committed to understanding the complex economic and financial processes of an increasingly global society.
In addition to the offer of challenging master programs, the Barcelona GSE promotes excellence in scientific research in close collaboration with its four founding academic bodies.
