The School of Health Sciences is a recent organic unit of the University of Minho, created to ensure graduate and postgraduate education, research and other specialized services within the Health Sciences domain. Founded in 2000, the School of Health Sciences (ECS) aims to train doctors and other health professionals throughout life. The ECS offers a Medical Degree, which has an innovative curriculum design. The Institute of Education (IE) is a new teaching and research unit of the University of Minho (UMinho) created in 2009 by joining the Child Studies Centre (IEC) and the Institute of Education and Psychology (IEP), regarding its Educational component. According to its Statutes, IE's mission is to develop projects on education, research and interaction with society in the broad area of Education, thus contributing to the development and well-being of individuals, groups, education… [+] organisations and society alike. The teaching activity of IE is divided by undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees specific to IE or shared with other Schools of UMinho. IE also covers advanced scientific internships, doctorates in partnership with foreign universities and post-doctorates. In conjunction with the teaching activities, research developed in IE is focused on the educational processes, agents and contexts, on teaching, learning, training and socio-educational development. The Department of Basic Psychology includes three laboratories: (1)Neuropsychophysiology, (2) Animal Learning and Behavior, and (3) Human Cognition. The Department of Applied Psychology includes three research units: (1) Psychotherapy and Psychopathology, (2) Justice and Violence, (3) Learning and Achievement. Each member of the academic staff is affiliated with one of these six research units. All research laboratories and units are part of the Research Center in Psychology (CIPsi), which supports the development of knowledge of basic psychological processes, such as memory, as well as more complex processes which unfold in a broader environmental and interpersonal context, such as psychopathology. The School offers several academic programs: an Integrated Master’s in Psychology; a Master’s in Applied Psychology, a PhD in Basic Psychology and a PhD in Applied Psychology. The most distant source of the creation of the Law School (ED) should be sought at the time of foundation of the University of Minho (UMinho). The first Rector, Professor Carlos Lloyd Braga, at a meeting held in the Legal Association of Braga, April 6, 1974, provided for the creation of a Department of Legal Sciences (Diário do Minho, of 04.07.1974). Installation Committee of the University, in view of this goal, was also part of the Professor Diogo Freitas do Amaral. The … [+] most decisive boost to the creation of the Law School was the attitude of Professor Sérgio Machado dos Santos to have included this purpose in the "Programme of Action", dated March 1990, which formed the basis for his candidacy and election Rector UMinho. This program could read (pp. 13-14) as programmatic objective, "the study and start-up courses in new areas of knowledge, particularly of the law." And between 1990 and 1993 was set up a task force, headed by Professor Antonio Candido de Oliveira, responsible for drawing up the proposal to create the Law Degree. On February 1, 1993, the University Senate approved unanimously and by acclamation, the Law Degree. Were created the foundations of the third school of public law of the country - after the Faculty of Law, University of Coimbra and Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon - which began operating in the academic year 1993/1994. The creation of the degree was accompanied, from the beginning, the institutionalization of an organizational structure corresponding to a school in installation, with a special regulation on the Scientific Council was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor. The Law School in 2005 acquired the status of school with full autonomy. The sense of autonomy assumes an important meaning here, but relative. The consolidation work of a school is a very long work, to continue to be promising, as it has been, requires continued commitment and sense of responsibility of all teachers, students and staff. A quick note to point out that all the tremendous effort put in the qualification of teachers allowed to achieve a very important result: is the third School of Law in the country in number of teachers with a doctoral degree. It was also the first School of Public Law that in the academic year 2006/07, started a Law Degree with a plan of appropriate studies to Bologna. This study program lasts four years (eight semesters), conferring the degree of Master of Law. In these four years is assured the student structuring the necessary training to a legal expert. The aim of Law Degree is essentially that of forming jurists with solid basic skills, able to perform the functions that traditionally are entrusted to them, including the Judiciary, Law, Public Administration, Registration and Notary and Judicial Police, as well as exercise more innovative activities, in clear expansion, such as counseling and reasoning of decisions in private and public organizations, national and international. The School of Sciences of the University of Minho, created in 1975, has evolved into a well-established institution enjoying a good reputation in quality of teaching and research in the domains of Exact and Natural Sciences. History The Polytechnic Institute of Tomar was created in 1973 but because of the portuguese revolution in 1974, the process of installation did not materialize. In 1979, was established as School of Technology of Tomar (ESTT), not integrated, whose installation commission would only be appointed in October 1982 consisting by the President, Professor Pacheco de Amorim, and vowels, Dr Julio Dias das Neves and Dr. Maria do Rosário Baaeta Neves. The politics of higher education in Portugal defined that could only be a Polytechnic by District and thus in 1985, the ESTT was integrated in the Polytechnic of Santarém. Later, in 1994, its name was changed to the School of Technology and Management Tomar (ESTGT). In 1986 came into operation the first undergraduate programmes of IPT: Business & Management (Head Professor José Ribeiro Mendes), Construction (Head Professor António Paiva) and Pulp and Paper Technology (Head Professor Rui Santa Ovaia), with a total of about 90 students. In 1987 came into operation the undergraduate programme of Graphic Arts (Head Dr António Guilhermino Pires) and, in 1988, the Course of Specialized Studies in Art, Archaeology and Restoration (Head Professor Luis Osterbeek). In 1996, the then Minister of Education and Science, Eduardo Marçal Grilo, did publish the creation of the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar (IPT), with the School of Management (ESGT) and the School of Technology (ESTT), both in Tomar, now in its new campus, with effect from January 1, 1997. Was named President's Professor Dr. Pacheco de Amorim, and indicated to his aides Professor José Faria Paixão, Professor José Ribeiro Mendes, cumulating with the Directorate of School of Management, and Professor Rui Santa Ovaia cumulating with the Directorate of School of Technology. The statutes of the IPT and of the schools have now been approved and Professor Conceição Fortunato took the direction of ESGT and Professor Luis Merca assumed the direction of ESTT. In 1999, was created in the IPT, the School of Technology of Abrantes (ESTA), directed by Professor Eugenio Pina de Almeida. In 2005, was appointed to head the ESTA, Professor Miguel Pinto dos Santos. In the 2005 elections, was elected President Professor António Pires da Silva. In the 2010 elections was elected the current President Eugenio Pina de Almeida. Directors were appointed to ESTT Professor João Coroado, for ESGT Professor Conceição Fortunato and for the ESTA, Professor Luis Ferreira. Facts and Personalities A reference at the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar is Professor José Bayolo Pacheco de Amorim, being the President of the institution since its beginning in 1982 until 2005. IPT attributed its name to the Main Auditorium. Professor António Pires da Silva was the second President's between 2005 and 2010., Today's Member of the Supervisory Board and Chairman of the Support Office for the presidency. Professor Julio Dias das Neves belonged from 1982 to 1996, to the management of IPT, having been assigned its name to the Auditorium O106. Belonged to the General Council till 2014. The first Professor, Luis Oliveira Dias, took office on February 27, 1984. Joaquim Pombo, from Business & Management, José Casimiro Pereira, Vitor Gaspar and Natércia Santos, from Pulp and Paper Technology, and Orlando Lopes da Fonseca, from Construction are the first graduates, Professors or High Technicians today working at IPT. • In 1989 it launched the first stone Campus IPT in Tomar and the first classes began at this Campus in 1991. • In 2014 the IPT has to offer 21 Bachelor, Masters 21 and 17 Technological Specialisation Courses. There are about 3000 students. • By 2014, IPT has already enrolled about 13,000 students, and graduates have already been over 10,000. Awards The Polytechnic Institute of Tomar has received several awards and distinctions, either as an institution, either within their schools or their courses. The Institute was awarded by the European Commission with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) Label, ie the recognition of an excellent use of the European Credit Transfer System. We are one of the institutions of European education with a European best mobilities with the respective credit recognition skills acquisition. The European Master in Renewable Energy is an initiative proposed and developed by the European Renewable Energy Centres (EUREC) and a consortium of Universities outlined in the 'Partnering Universities' section. ISCAP Historial O ISCAP, com a designação que lhe conhecemos hoje - Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto, advém do Decreto-Lei n.º 327/ 76, de 6 de Maio, embora as suas raízes históricas sejam bem mais longínquas. De facto, foi em 1886 que o Instituto Industrial e Comercial do Porto foi fundado (Decreto de 30 de Dezembro, 1886), pelo então ministro Emídio Navarro que lança as bases teóricas da organização do ensino industrial e comercial do… [+] nosso País. Em 1891, as reformas de ensino técnico de João Franco mantiveram inalteráveis as secções industrial e comercial deste Instituto, não as transformando em escolas independentes. Os cursos elementares de comércio foram suprimidos e o curso superior fica reduzido a três anos e dividido em dois graus. O Instituto Comercial e Industrial do Porto vê, em 1896, serem reconhecidos os seus Cursos Superiores, equiparados aos das demais escolas: o antigo Curso Superior de Comércio (criado pelo Decreto de 30 de Dezembro de 1886) e o Curso Superior ministrado nos Institutos Industriais e Comerciais. O Instituto Industrial e Comercial do Porto viveu um percurso atribulado, pela falta de orientação definitiva, até 1918, data da publicação do Decreto n.º 5 029, de 1 de Dezembro, que separou a sua parte comercial, desdobrando-a num Instituto Comercial do Porto e num Instituto Superior de Comércio do Porto. Nesta data dá-se pela primeira vez a separação dos Institutos Comerciais em relação aos Institutos Industriais, situação que se manteve até 1924. Esta segmentação é no entanto temporária, pois rapidamente se fundem de novo estas áreas do saber e só em 1933 se opta por uma segmentação definitiva. O então apelidado de Instituto Comercial do Porto é conhecido à época por deter o maior nível de estudos mercantis da capital nortenha e também por ser um estabelecimento de ensino técnico médio com ambiência de ensino superior em diversos aspectos da sua vida académica. A reforma operada pelo Decreto-Lei n.º 38 031, de 4 de Novembro de 1950, em nada vem alterar as características deste estabelecimento de ensino. Pelo contrário, a conjuntura política de 1974 vem operar profundas alterações na vida deste Instituto, pois, na altura, crescem em importância os cursos de carácter marcadamente técnico. Neste novo contexto, o progresso do País exigia o bom desempenho de quadros técnicos superiores, que na altura escasseavam. Assim, o ISCAP, é reconhecido como uma das escolas que, ao longo dos séculos, formaram gerações de profissionais e é inserido nos estabelecimentos de ensino superior. Este acontecimento possibilita aos diplomados pelos Institutos Comerciais receberem a designação de bacharéis, um grau que "constitui habilitação própria para admissão ao estágio para professor do 6º grupo do ensino técnico profissional”. Esta legislação é percursora daquela que vai, mais tarde, integrar os Institutos Comerciais na rede de ensino superior - o Decreto-Lei n.º 327/ 76, de 6 de Maio. É assim que nasce a actual designação de Institutos Superiores de Contabilidade e Administração, com o estatuto de “escolas superiores, dotadas de personalidade jurídica e autonomia administrativa e pedagógica”, habilitadas a conferir “os graus de bacharelato, licenciatura e doutoramento”. No ano lectivo de 1975/ 76, o Instituto de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto passa a ministrar, ao abrigo do Decreto-Lei n.º 313/ 75, os Cursos de Bacharelato de Contabilidade e Administração e Línguas e Secretariado. Estes cursos foram posteriormente regulamentados pela Portaria n.º 918/ 83, de 7 de Outubro e sofrearam sucessivos reajustamentos de acordo com as evoluções das ciências económica e contabilística e das exigências do mercado de trabalho. O Instituto vive, no entanto, um período conturbado, após a data de 1976, em virtude da indefinição existente no País. Os Institutos, habilitados a conferir os graus de Bacharelato, Licenciatura e Doutoramento, deveriam ser integrados no Ensino Superior Universitário, mas disposições legais posteriores procuravam o seu enquadramento no Ensino Superior Politécnico. Este contexto de indefinição só terminou com a identificação das Escolas/ Institutos Superiores que resultavam da reconversão ou evolução de Escolas anteriores e com a integração do Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto no Instituto Politécnico do Porto em 1988, através do Decreto-Lei n.º 70/ 88 de 3 de Março. Este novo quadro legal resulta do facto de os Institutos visarem a formação superior de técnicos qualificados nos domínios da Contabilidade e Administração e promover, num âmbito geográfico, o intercâmbio entre o ensino e as estruturas económicas e sociais. Foram também encontradas semelhanças entre os objectivos do Ensino Superior Politécnico e os dos Institutos de Contabilidade e Administração, o que veio reforçar este novo enquadramento. O Decreto-Lei n.º 443/ 85, de 24 de Outubro, estabelece a orgânica dos Institutos Superiores de Contabilidade e Administração determina também que o seu pessoal docente passe a reger-se pelo Decreto-Lei n.º 185/ 81, de 1 de Julho, que criou a carreira de Ensino Superior Politécnico. Entretanto, foram também criados os Cursos de Bacharelato e Estudos Superiores Especializados, graus que a Lei de Bases do Sistema Educativo qualifica expressamente como próprios do Ensino Superior Politécnico. Em 1983 surge o Curso de Bacharelato Aduaneiro (Portaria nº. 918/83 de 07 de Outubro), sofrendo este também posteriores alterações (Portaria nº. 238/86 de 22 de Maio). A partir do ano lectivo de 1993/94, adopta a designação de Estudos Superiores de Comércio, sucedendo esta à de Curso Superior Aduaneiro. O Curso de Bacharelato de Marketing é inaugurado no ano lectivo de 1996/97 para permitir o “preenchimento de uma lacuna, pois o seu objectivo de estudo procura suprimir uma carência agravada pelas necessidades de técnicos superiores na área dos serviços face à competitividade das empresas, fundamentalmente em resultado da integração de Portugal na União Europeia”. A Portaria n.º 751/86, de 17 de Dezembro, criou também os Cursos de Estudos Superiores Especializados (CESE's) - Auditoria, Controle Financeiro, Secretariado de Gestão e Administração e Técnicas Aduaneiras, os quais conferiam também o grau de Licenciatura, desde que formassem um conjunto coerente com um curso de Bacharelato precedente. Tal traduzia-se, em termos práticos, em conceder uma “habilitação equivalente à Licenciatura para todos os efeitos académicos e profissionais”. Em 1991, é criado o CESE em Contabilidade e Administração seguido de Tradução Especializada, este último em 1995. No final do ano lectivo de 1997/98, o ISCAP colocava no mercado de trabalho alunos habilitados com os CESE"s em Auditoria, Gestão Financeira, Contabilidade e Administração de Empresas, Assessoria de Gestão, Comércio Internacional (ramos Gestão Internacional e Administração Aduaneira) e Tradução Especializada. Em virtude da reformulação levada a cabo, o ISCAP passa a leccionar, a partir de 1998, as Licenciaturas de Contabilidade e Administração (ramos Contabilidade e Administração, Gestão Financeira e Auditoria), Comércio Internacional, Línguas e Secretariado (ramo Secretariado de Gestão e Tradução Especializada) e Marketing. Já no ano lectivo de 2001/2002 passaria também a ser ministrado o ramo de Administração Pública. Já com novas instalações, inauguradas oficialmente em 1996, o ISCAP recebe nos finais desta década o Mestrado em Contabilidade e Administração, organizado pela Universidade do Minho, e em parceria com o Instituto Politécnico do Porto. Apesar de inauguradas em 1996, a mudança para o novo edifício processa-se um ano antes, em Novembro. No ano lectivo de 2003/2004 o Ramo de Tradução Especializada passaria a designar-se Tradução e Interpretação Especializada, alteração aprovada pela Portaria n.º 602/2003 de 21 de Julho. Em 2004/2005 é criado o curso de Comunicação Empresarial, Licenciatura também bi-etápica em que o 1º ciclo atribuía, de igual modo, o grau de Bacharel (6 semestres) e, o 2º, o grau de Licenciatura (2 semestres), aprovado pela Portaria n.º 161/2006 de 20 de Fevereiro. Distinguia-se assim dos anteriores pelo facto de ter uma duração total de apenas quatro anos. No entanto, este plano apenas prevaleceria nesse ano lectivo, tendo sido actualmente adequado ao acordo de Bolonha, o que implicou a fixação da Licenciatura em apenas três anos. Aguarda-se ainda a aprovação relativa ao funcionamento do respectivo Mestrado, de igual designação, cuja duração prevista será de 4 semestres. No ano lectivo de 2005/2006 também o curso de Línguas e Secretariado foi adequado ao Acordo de Bolonha, adoptando a designação de “Assessoria e Tradução” e passando, assim, a ter a duração de apenas 6 semestres. Foi ainda proposto o funcionamento de três Mestrados: Tradução Assistida por Computador (área científica de línguas e literaturas estrangeiras); Tradução e Interpretação Especializadas (área científica de línguas e literaturas estrangeiras) e Assessoria de Administração (área de científica de ciências empresariais). No ano lectivo de 2007/ 2008 entraram em funcionamento os cursos de Contabilidade e Administração, Comércio Internacional e Marketing adequados ao Acordo de Bolonha. Estas licenciaturas passaram a ter 6 semestres. Foram ainda propostos os respectivos mestrados mas ainda aguardam aprovação os de Comércio Internacional e Marketing.
