Maastricht University, Faculty of Humanities and Science

Introduction

The Faculty of Humanities and Sciences (FHS) is a Faculty containing a variety of organizational units, all with different missions, characteristics and phases of development. Each unit has its own management and budget. However, the overall framework is a regular faculty structure within the ramifications of BBRUM headed by a Dean. There is a small general office catering for the secretarial and procedural assistance of the Management Team and Faculty Council, financial control, HR and the coordination of ICT. Within the FHS there are several (part-time) functions centrally positioned: dean, director, secretary to the MT, controller, prevention officer, secretarial support, HR, and Information Management (IM).

Ever wondered where plastics will come from after oil runs out? Is it possible to produce functional materials and plastics from biological resources? Can novel sustainable materials be produced based on the molecular structures available in nature?

In the master biobased materials, we will provide you with the knowledge and competencies to deal with these challenges.

Biobased: sustainable materials with possibly completely new properties

Planet Earth is running out of fossil fuels. Alternative resources for materials and plastics need to be found and developed. A new generation of scientists is required to discover novel materials and sustainable production methods making use of biological resources. This provides an opportunity for the development of novel materials with completely new material properties. This program prepares you for a career in research, development, production, and application of bio-based materials to aid in the transition towards a more sustainable and biobased economy.... [-]

Master in Systems Biology

Campus Full time 2 years September 2018 Netherlands Maastricht

Do you want to better understand the underlying mechanisms of life? Would you like know more about how you can use biology and mathematics to gain deeper insight into the evolution of animals and plants, the development of diseases and the possibly the development of new therapies? Then Systems Biology is the right programme for you! This programme will give you the knowledge and practical skills necessary to unravel the complexity of these systems and use it for academic, industrial and societal progress. After you’ve graduated, your ability to unify life sciences and mathematics will make you a great candidate for a career in medical research, drug development and biotechnology. [+]

Would you like know more about how you can use biology and mathematics to gain deeper insight into the evolution of animals and plants, the development of diseases and the possibly the development of new therapies? Then Systems Biology is the right programme for you!

Systems Biology will become the mainstream in biological sciences this century. It can be used to systematically gather knowledge at all levels, from molecules to entire ecosystems and its integration into quantitative (computer) models. These models make an accurate simulation of biological processes possible.

This programme will give you the knowledge and practical skills necessary to unravel the complexity of these systems and use it for academic, industrial and societal progress. After you’ve graduated, your ability to unify life sciences and mathematics will make you a great candidate for a career in medical research, drug development and biotechnology.... [-]
