Introduction

Polimoda - International Institute of Fashion Design & Business is a center of excellence, recognized worldwide for its high quality, fashion-oriented education. Listed in the British created BoF Global Fashion School Rankings as one of the 10 best fashion schools in the world, and first in Italy, with yearly enrolments of over 1500 students, of which 70% international students, thanks to its professional training by means of highly-specialized working and research methodology. Non only a training center, but a creative campus, a meeting place for “visionaries” and opinion leaders from the fashion world, culture and education, Polimoda is an internationally recognized authority.

With headquarters in Florence, the new capital of international fashion and heart of the Made in Italy production, it’s a center with the gene for Italian excellence, as well as an international vocation. Founded in 1986 as part of an initiative conceived and financed by the Cities of Florence and Prato and fashion-sector trade associations, Polimoda boast of 30 years of experience in education specialized in the Fashion and Luxury fields. Ferruccio Ferragamo, president of the same company, was appointed President of Polimoda in March 2006, enlightened entrepreneur and a name that represents the best of “Made In Italy” fashion worldwide.

From January 2016 Polimoda launches the Strategy & Vision Platform in Paris to consolidate and develop global relationships, directed by Linda Loppa, one of the best known profiles in the international fashion education scene, with over 45 years of experience in the sector. Together with Danilo Venturi, new Dean of Polimoda with a background in the luxury sector and Fashion Business & Management education, a new chapter of growth will be written in the context of a vast and more far reaching network.

Polimoda offers a wide range of didactic programs and masters providing high-level training of the major professional profiles requested by the sector, from creative to managerial and strategic professionals, in the areas of Fashion & Technology and Business & Communication. Networking and ongoing interaction with fashion companies, a team of teachers composed of professionals and experts, and flexible, high-quality training able to respond to the fast moving fashion needs, are some of the added values that guarantee the most up-to-date training to stay astride with the professional world. It is not by coincidence that 88% of Polimoda graduates find employed within 6 months after finishing their studies, and that an increasing number of ex-students hold prestigious positions in major international brands or are among the emerging new talents in the fashion field.

Two are the locations of the Institute: the historic complex of Villa Favard, headquarters of in the heart of Florence, ideal location to host visionaries, managers and creative talents, thanks to its historic prestige and beauty as well as its strategic position and intrinsic meaning for the City. The new Polimoda Design Labs in Scandicci, inaugurated in January 2015, is the “creative” facility of Polimoda, hosting laboratories for design, sewing, knitting, fashion technology, footwear & accessories for course of the Design & Technology area.

Creative Direction is a wide and deep program shaping the newest evolution of the fashion designer, the Creative Director. This is one who leads a design studio, the identity of a fashion brand, as well as specials project in the society of the spectacle, with the typical sensorial and conceptual approach required from art management. Creative Direction is a wide and deep program shaping the newest evolution of the fashion designer, the Creative Director. This is one who leads a design studio, the identity of a fashion brand, as well as specials project in the society of the spectacle, with the typical sensorial and conceptual approach required from art management. Creative Direction is based on 3 intersected areas. Design: the trend and cultural research resulting in a visualised concept. Brand: a market analysis resulting in brand identity strategy. Communications: the creation of written, visual and motion contents to be created and delivered by a team. This master’s course gives access to shows, trade fairs, exhibitions and museums in Italy and Europe, as well as internship opportunities. This course is run by teachers and guests from the industry, reviewing one-to-one the progress of the student. The final project is a concept book to be represented with a design installation in Villa Favard in front of a jury. The academic year is 9 months long, from June to March, with a total of 800 teaching hours, valuable for 80 credits. English language proficiency and experience in the field are required. Candidates with work experience or relevant studies in fashion and related fields will be selected after a enrolment questionnaire and an interview with the course’s leading teacher. Fashion Brand Management is the most up-to-date and complete program at Polimoda, for the visionary and active, creative and relational, for someone with a charismatic personality; the Brand Manager. This is a master in creating, preserving, and reshaping the identity of a brand, one who speaks to the subconscious and wins the battle in the consumers’ minds. This master’s course features three main areas. Vision: the tuning between human, society and industry that makes the brand relevant. Management: the strategic marketing of a business model in real case scenarios. Communications: the creation and delivery of a sense-based message to seduce and aggregate. Fashion Brand Management is run by teachers from the industry and international guest lecturers. Field trips to trade fairs, fashion shows, companies and corporate museums are included, as well as internship opportunities. This course perfectly integrates the two words contained in its title, Fashion and Design, into the teaching areas. The first area is based on research; a full immersion to acquire cultural and technical skill, while the second is practice-driven and aims to realise and present an impressive capsule collection. Fashion Design is run by teachers from the industry and special guests, grants unlimited access to the Design Lab, Computer Labs, and the immense library, and includes a starting toolkit, a field trip to Milan Fashion Week, and internship opportunities. Fashion Styling goes in-depth into six modules: Styling a Collection, Styling a Fashion Event, Digital Styling, Styling a Store, Editorial Styling and Personal Styling.
