The Feinberg Graduate School (FGS) encapsulates the spirit of inquiry and discovery. Since its establishment in 1958 as the academic arm of the Weizmann Institute of Science responsible for all student and postdoctoral affairs, the Feinberg Graduate School has established its reputation as a multidisciplinary center where students strive to reach the highest levels of knowledge and understanding, under the guidance of creative and original researchers in the natural sciences and mathematics.

At the Feinberg Graduate School, you can become a part of the prestigious history of achievement at the Weizmann Institute, which boasts association with Nobel laureates and Turing Award laureates. As a student of the Feinberg Graduate School, you will be involved in the scientific research conducted at the Institute and devote your time to both research and study, using cutting-edge, state-of-the-art tools and equipment and working directly with research groups at the forefront of their fields internationally. The Feinberg Graduate School provides fellowships for all students and charges no tuition fees, so that you can afford to be fully immersed in your studies. All classes at the Feinberg Graduate School are conducted in English.

Mission

The Graduate School’s goal is the advanced training of new generations of creative and original researchers in the natural sciences and mathematics ─ in other words, the education of future scientific leaders. All students at the Feinberg Graduate School are directly involved in the research conducted at the Institute.

Accreditation

The Feinberg Graduate School is accredited by the Council for Higher Education in Israel.

Language

The official language of instruction at the Feinberg Graduate School is English. This enables international students to benefit from its programs.

All students at the Feinberg Graduate School are exempted from paying tuition fees.

How to Apply

A step-by-step guide to submitting an MSc application

The following sections will guide you through the application process for the Feinberg Graduate School’s MSc program, providing detailed information on preparing and submitting your application and understanding what process takes place after you’ve submitted all of the necessary documentation. No fee is charged for the registration process.

Minimum academic requirements

To apply for the MSc program, you must hold a BSc degree from an accredited local or foreign institution of higher learning, or other certificate deemed equivalent by the Board of Studies in your field, with a GPA of 85 (or the equivalent).

International students

MSc candidates from non-Israeli universities or institutions of higher learning are required to take external evaluation examinations including:

  • GREs: Both general tests and tests in the subject you would like to study. The FGS code for GREs is 3398, and scores must be sent directly from the GRE testing center.
  • TOEFL or IELTS: Only for candidates whose mother tongue is not English. Please note that if you are asked to indicate an institution as a score recipient, the Weizmann Institute of Science TOEFL code number is C087.

Waving the need to provide GRE and/or TOEFL scores is at the discretion of the relevant Board of Studies.

Application deadline

Online applications registration must be completed between October 1st and March 31st.

Late applications in Math & CS only (i.e. after the above-mentioned deadline) are considered in special cases only.

In certain programs (e.g. Neuroscience MSc/PhD integrated program ), Applications by international students received by December 31st will be considered during January, and interviews will be held during early February. Final decisions will be provided by February 28th.

Admissions Procedures

As a student at the Feinberg Graduate School’s MSc program, you’ll be exposed to both the best of science and the best of education. Students at the Feinberg Graduate School are involved in the research conducted at the Institute, working directly with research groups at the forefront of their fields internationally. The Feinberg Graduate School charges no tuition and provides all MSc students with full scholarships that enable them to completely devote their time to scientific research and study.

Acceptance to the MSc program at the Feinberg Graduate School involves an admissions procedure that usually takes between four to twelve weeks to complete. Classes at the FGS are conducted in English. The school, which includes individuals of all backgrounds and beliefs, is proud of its diverse student body.

MSc Fellowships

Monthly Fellowships for MSc Students

Full-time MSc students at the Feinberg Graduate School are entitled to a monthly fellowship for 24 months. If you receive the fellowship, you are expected to devote all of your time to studies and scientific research.

Types of fellowships

There are several types/levels of MSc fellowships at the Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS):

Regular MSc fellowship

During their MSc studies, all students are entitled to a fellowship in the amount of NIS 5,930.

Incentive fellowship

NIS 6,523 per month (110% of the regular fellowship)

The incentive supplement is awarded to recipients of competitive external fellowships with a monthly value in NIS that is below the level of the incentive fellowship.

External (competitive) fellowships (that are paid through the WIS)

As defined by the external foundation, up to a limit of NIS 10,000 per month.

Principles

The following principles govern the fellowship system at the WIS:

Substitution

External fellowships (competitive and non-competitive), either replace the regular WIS fellowship or fund part of it. In other words, they substitute for the regular MSc fellowship and are not awarded in addition to it.

External vs WIS fellowship

WIS fellowships and external fellowships may not be awarded simultaneously. If the level of an external fellowship is higher than the regular WIS fellowship then the student is entitled to keep the balance (subject to the above-mentioned limit). However, if the level of the external fellowship is lower than the regular WIS fellowship then the student is still paid the difference - up to 110% of the regular WIS fellowship.

Termination of Fellowship Payment

  • When you complete your studies, the fellowship stops immediately. You can receive the fellowship for a maximum of two academic years.
  • If you begin working and earning a salary, your fellowship payments cease. In such instances, you are required to notify your faculty coordinator at the Feinberg Graduate School.
  • If you receive approval to postpone the submission of your thesis, the Dean of the Feinberg Graduate School will determine whether you can continue to receive financial support during the additional time period, or only for part of it. This decision is made on an individual basis. If the Dean approves the extension of your financial support, you can continue to receive the funding for an additional period of up to three months.
  • Likewise, if you are on maternity leave, military reserve duty or suffering from a prolonged illness, you may also be entitled to receive extended support for an additional period of up to three months (up to 27 months in total).
