In May 2001, the Government of Ireland recommended that an Institute for American Studies should be established in Ireland. It also decided that it should be named for the 42nd President of the United State, President William Jefferson Clinton, in recognition of his role both personally, as well as those of the United States Government, Congress and people, in the Irish Peace Process. University College Dublin successfully tendered for the project and the Clinton Institute… [+] for American Studies was formally established at UCD. The success of the tender owed much to the enthusiastic support and imagination of Professor Maurice Brich of the School of History and Archives and Dr. Ron Callan of the School of English, Drama and Film Studies. Professor Bric was the first acting Director of the Institute and played a key role in laying foundations, such as the introduction of the Institute’s Masters programme in American Studies. In 2004, Professor Liam Kennedy was appointed Director, responsible for the Institute’s teaching, research and outreach programmes. He has overseen the expansion and diversification of core programmes and the internationalisation of our teaching and research. This has included the establishment of an international Summer School, of MA programmes – in Media and International Conflict and in American Politics and Foreign Policy – and of a PhD programme in American Studies. President Clinton has warmly supported the establishment of the Institute, paying several visits and addressing students in memorable lectures. Mission Through research, teaching and public engagement the UCD Clinton Institute promotes the advanced study of the United States and its global relations.

GUCM conferred a visiting professorship on the ICTCM's Director Tom Shanahan in 2004. When he first introduced Acupuncture TCM to Ireland in the early 1980s, very few people had heard of Acupuncture, TCM or Chinese Herbal Medicine. Nowadays, many people actively choose Alternative Medicine either as an adjunct to Western Medical treatment or as a means of treating illnesses which have not responded well to other forms of medicine. Acupuncture and TCM are at the forefront of such Alternative approaches to health and illness, focusing as they do, not only on treating and curing current illness but also on disease prevention and health enhancement. Prof Shanahan has written a number of short articles on Acupuncture/TCM in all its facets, and we have now launched the first article in the series on this website. Qualified Practitioners of Acupuncture and TCM in Ireland Graduates of the ICTCM are automatically eligible for membership in the PRTCM, Professional Register of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Founded in 1983, the PRTCM is the first and oldest professional body representing and regulating the profession of Acupuncture and TCM in Ireland - including Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Medical Qigong. About The Recording Connection A division of the Recording, Radio, Film and Culinary Connection (RRFC), the Recording Connection is an industry-recognized trade school geared around providing you with practical, one-on-one training for a career as an audio engineer or music producer. Our overarching goal is not simply to equip you with the skills you need, but also to help you break into the industry by putting you in a position to gain on-the-job experience while making… [+] important industry connections. Through our revolutionary mentor-apprentice (extern) learning approach, we pair each of our students with an actual music producer or audio engineer who provides one-on-one training in a real recording studio. Our program combines a structured-yet-flexible curriculum with a large amount of hands-on training in the studio, which enables our students not only to learn the rudiments of producing, recording and mixing but the business aspects of running a studio, as well as the inner workings of the industry itself. Since our inception in 1989, the Recording Connection has expanded its reach into all 50 states, as well as into Canada, Australia, and the U.K., ultimately placing more than 11,000 students as apprentices (externs) in real recording studios across three continents. Our mentoring staff consists of actual producers and engineers in world-class studios, many of whom regularly work with Grammy-winning, Platinum-selling artists. We carefully screen our mentors to ensure they are giving our students the best education possible, as well as the best opportunities to connect with the industry in the process. The Recording Connection’s on-the-job audio training program is an excellent choice for anyone with a passion to launch a career as an audio engineer, music producer, live sound engineer, music recording artist, live DJ, composer or other industry professional. Our unique approach puts you in the right place at the right time with the right people to help you break into the industry. Possible Career Paths Within our basic audio engineering and music production course, we are able to pair students with mentors that specialize in their chosen genre or field of interest. We currently offer customized training for the following career paths: Electronic music production Hip-hop music production/beat making Live sound engineering Post-production audio Audio for film, TV and video games Touring DJ Music business (artist management, label executive, etc.) Top ten reasons to consider the Recording Connection: 1. Learn near where you live. ( 250 cities to choose from) With over 250 locations across the country, we can train you in a real recording studio within driving distance of where you live. No need to relocate, quit your job or say goodbye to your existing connections. 2. Low tuition With skyrocketing education costs, it is not uncommon for students to rack up tens of thousands of dollars in debt before they graduate. For aspiring industry professionals, this can end a career before it even begins. We keep our tuition affordable ($9400, all supplies included, no fees) so you can focus on your career, not on how you’re going to pay your bills. 3. Prepare for a variety of music industry careers Whether you want to produce, compose, engineer, DJ or perform; whether you’re into hip-hop, electronic music, country, pop, rock or jazz; we tailor your curriculum to your needs, and we pair you with a mentor who can help you achieve your specific career goals. 4. Real job placement assistance Thanks to our unique approach, many of our students get hired by their mentors or by connections made through their mentors. However, at the Recording Connection, we leave nothing to chance. For each of our students, we provide additional support, training and job placement assistance for up to a year after graduation. 5. Learn as an apprentice (extern), not a classroom student or an intern As a Recording Connection student, you are not one student among dozens competing for a teacher’s attention in a classroom. Nor are you simply an intern who takes out the trash (although chores are a natural part of studio life). You are an apprentice (extern) who has been assigned to a real producer/engineer for personalized on-the-job training. You aren’t just learning concepts from a textbook: you’re learning the tricks of the trade from a real pro. 6. Work on your own music career One of the things our students love best about the Recording Connection is that our course enables them to apply the things they’re learning to creating their own music. While many of our students simply want to engineer and produce for others, many others want to produce their own music. Our course enables you to up your own game. You’ll learn to record, mix and produce your own music, and even better, get it heard by actual music industry professionals who can help you get it out there. 7. Learn industry standard gear and software Since you’re learning in a real recording studio, you’ll naturally be learning to use the gear and software that the pros use, from vintage amps to virtual plugins, from analog to digital. You’ll learn the industry standard Pro Tools, as well as other programs like Logic, Reason and Ableton. And you’ll get to practice on the gear and software without competing with other students for practice time. 9. One-on-one mentoring In a Recording Connection class, there is only one student: you. No classes with dozens of other students. All the training occurs one-on-one in the studio, just you and your mentor. No glossing over things you don’t understand. Learn at your own pace. Ask whatever questions you like. This personalized attention is what helps people like you become great producers and engineers. And that’s what we’re after. 10. World-Class mentors with real album credits In other schools, teachers often have their degrees and diplomas hanging on the wall. In the real music industry, success is measured in other ways. We partner with top producers and engineers across the country to mentor our students—people who work with superstar talent such as Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, U2, Aerosmith, Kendrick Lamar and many, many others. You probably won’t find college degrees hanging on the walls of your mentor’s studio, but you might just see a few Gold and Platinum Records, and maybe even a Grammy or two.

In today's fast-paced and rapidly-changing world, effective communication is more important than ever, and English as a means of international communication is key. International Education has become a permanent and ever-growing feature of modern society and today traditional English-language programmes form only part of a complex range of study-abroad programmes required by groups and individuals as a way of achieving personal, educational or professional goals. Mobility… [+] involving cultural exchanges among countries worldwide has become an integral part of professional development in a way that couldn't have been imagined a few years ago. Personal attention to the individual needs and cultural backgrounds of all our students is at the centre of the Emerald Cultural Institute experience. Every aspect of the study-abroad programme is important to us, and all our staff are committed to delivering the highest quality service in a friendly, personal and professional environment. We have been providing quality English language and professional development programmes since 1986 to groups and individuals of all ages and from more. We offer a sophisticated range of English language courses and programmes specially designed to cater for all the learning needs of our adult clients. Students can choose whichever one of our beautiful campuses best suits their unique needs. Our centres are equipped with excellent facilities to enhance the learning experience of every student. Students of all levels benefit from interesting and challenging lessons by highly qualified and experienced teachers. Monitoring progress, continuous evaluation and feedback from clients are an integral part of maintaining quality and ensuring that students continuously learn and improve. Students receive a warm and friendly welcome from the moment they arrive. We believe that social and personal development is an essential part of studying a language abroad. We want all our students to have an experience of the culture and lifestyle of Ireland and therefore provide the opportunity of participating in a lively and varied social and cultural programme. We offer our English courses in two locations: Miltown Park Milltown Park is a beautiful and supportive learning environment for our international students. It was formerly the home of Trinity College’s Irish School of Ecumenics and we are proud to continue the tradition of education on this impressive campus. Located in its own peaceful and spacious landscaped grounds, Milltown Park is situated in the vibrant and popular neighbourhood of Ranelagh with many restaurants, cafes, boutique shops and traditional pubs. The campus is well connected by bus and tram to the city centre and student accommodation. The school is well served by public transport with several bus routes stopping near the school gates and the nearest tram (Luas) stop is an 8-minute walk from the school. Palmerston Park Our Palmerston Park School is located in a prime residential neighbourhood within easy reach of Dublin city centre yet close to both our host families and student accommodation. Set in its own gardens, and overlooking the beautiful Palmerston Park, it offers students the chance to study English in a peaceful and stress-free environment. The original school building is a gracious Victorian mansion and we have enriched the campus by adding a specially designed modern building with additional classrooms and a large serviced canteen. The school is well served by public transport with several bus routes stopping near the school gates and the nearest tram (Luas stop) a 5-minute walk away from the school, bringing directly to the city centre.
Mater Dei Institute of Education is a foundation of the Archdiocese of Dublin, a College of Dublin City University and a designated higher education institution under the Higher Education Authority. The Institute was established in 1966 as a third-level Catholic College of Education specialising in the academic and professional formation of Religious Educators and Teachers for post-primary schools in Ireland. The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin is the Patron of the Institute.… [+] In 1999 the Institute became a College of Dublin City University. In the context of its linkage with the University, the Institute's strategic plan - Religion, Education and the Arts: Teaching and Learning in a Changing Ireland 2003-2008 was launched by An Taoiseach, Mr Bertie Ahern TD. The Institute is distinctive in its adoption of the concurrent model of teacher education. Over many years the Institute has developed several postgraduate programmes to further enhance its contribution to schooling, pastoral care and chaplaincy. In the years since its foundation the Institute has had an important and positive influence on the development of Irish education - primarily, albeit not exclusively, in the area of religious education - in terms of its on-going work of teacher education, the very significant contribution of its graduates and the research and publications of its staff. Mater Dei Institute has responded to the changing needs of the educational sector by pioneering the professional training of school chaplains. Its involvement in this area has led to its development of professional training for other forms of pastoral care. Moreover, its awareness of the enormous changes that have occurred in Irish society in the last 30 years has prompted the Institute to promote critical reflection and research on the themes of 'Religion and Education' and 'Religion and Culture'. The Institute, through its linkage with Dublin City University, can also award the M.A. and Ph.D. for research. The Institute is proud of its contribution to the Irish teaching profession over the past thirty-five years and is a willing partner in seeking to maintain and enhance the quality of teacher education. At a time of difficulty for the profession, both nationally and internationally, the Institute commits itself once again to value-added teacher education in terms of recruitment, professional formation, induction and in-career service of teachers. It intends to form teachers who are self-reliant, critically aware and committed to ever improving quality in both teaching and learning in second-level education in Ireland. In recent years, the Institute has developed the area of Irish Studies in its BA programme. The study of the relationship between religious and cultural identity is particularly appropriate in the Irish context. The hope for reconciliation expressed in the Good Friday Agreement needs intellectual and analytical foundations. This programme of studies will produce graduates who can contribute to the national aim of renewing Irish identity through a dialogue that is enriched by Irish literature, history and religion. The careful intellectual analysis of these areas should yield an understanding predicated on respect and tolerance of difference. The combination of Religious Studies and Irish Studies is particularly appropriate. In few countries has the influence of religion been so pervasive as in Ireland. Both for good and for ill, religious consciousness has permeated the minds of the Irish both at home and in the diaspora. This degree will give graduates insights into the interface of religion and society. In our strategic plan, we reflect on what it is to be a Catholic College in a changing world. "Mater Dei Institute asserts its unique position as a mediator between Irish Catholicism and Irish culture rather than simply embracing the latest trends of society, whether they are driven by the market or ideologically. The Institute is an important site where Christianity can negotiate openly with a plurality of other cultures, attitudes and systems of belief and no belief, and advocates the necessity of this negotiation by inviting people of all persuasions to participate in it." I hope that this site will give you a flavour of the various aspects of the life of the Institute. Andrew G. McGrady Director
