Hindustan College of Engineering, started in the year 1985, was conferred the "University Status" by University Grants Commission (UGC), Government of India, Under Section 3 of UGC Act 1956 from the academic year 2008-09 and under the name HITS (Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science).

The M.A. English Language and Communication offered by the Dept. of English, Hindustan University comprises 20 courses spread over 4 semesters in 2 years. Out of these 12 are core papers and 8 are electives.

The curriculum maintains a fine balance between the language and literature courses. One of the core papers in every semester focuses on features related to Language, e.g. Teaching of English, History of English Language, Linguistics etc.

Electives offer a wide range of choices like papers on Personality Development, Children's Literature, Women's Writing, Film studies, Canadian Literature etc.... [-]

In addition, exposure to chemistry related to interdisciplinary areas is also covered. Tuning the students with knowledge and know how on practical training and project training extending to research are the other essential components of the course. The total credit of the course is 93. The evaluation of the course comprises Continuous Internal Assessment (50%) and End-Semester Examination (50%). The students after completion of the course will have a good understanding on the applications of Chemistry in day-to-day life which will enable them to face the challenges of the current industrial needs.
