Teaching currently takes place in Hungarian and English, while a German-language programme is set to launch in September 2011. Talent Fostering There is an excessive demand for admission to the Faculty every year, and a large number of gifted students enrol, who have already achieved success at high school science competitions. This… [+] includes, for example, the gold medallist of the 2010 Chemistry Olympiad held in Tokyo, Japan, which drew participants from 68 countries. Talented students are rapidly integrated into research projects under the guidance of dedicated supervisors and take part in student research conferences at the University, and at national, and international levels. These students often proceed to PhD School, where they become devoted scientists. Career Opportunities Graduates of Semmelweis University’s Pharmacy programme have numerous career opportunities to choose from. Whether these professional pharmacists decide to seek employment in public or hospital pharmacies, the pharmaceutical industry, health authorities, regulatory agencies, or academia, statistics show that they generally obtain their desired job within 21 days of graduation. Research, Development and Innovation The Faculty of Pharmacy has been a research-oriented unit of higher education ever since its foundation. Fundamental research produces some 120 original peer-reviewed papers annually with an impact factor of 200, headed usually by Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacology. Organic and Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmacognosy are also well-represented in these statistics. Research work is based upon state-of-the-art instrumentation, including a 600 MHz nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, mass spectrometers, various hyphenated separation instruments, animal facilities, library, and computational platforms, and are supported by national and European funds. Drug development and innovation traditionally take place in collaboration with industrial partners. New types of drug formulations, such as gastro-retentive tablets of enhanced bioavailability, bone implants, and others have recently been elaborated and patented with assistance from advancements in nanotechnology. International Relations The Faculty is involved in several international collaborations in research and education, both in Europe and overseas. Today especially, strong ties exist with the University of California, the Catholique University of Leuven, and Imperial College, London. Highlight of Accomplishments The Nobel laureate János Harsányi received his Pharmacy diploma from our Faculty, two original drug molecules (deprenyl and vinpocetin) were discovered through the participation of our professors, and several new pharmacy-related, species-specific physicochemical parameters have been introduced, developed and utilised here, just to name a few of our noteworthy accomplishments.

It is also important that young people joining our programmes should not only become excellent professionals but educated persons in the widest sense. At the university there are various opportunities for intellectual activities and professors tend to convey not only professional skills but also their attitudes, values and viewpoints that may enrich students’ perceptions. The eight faculties of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics have their individual characteristics but they all aim at outstanding educational results. The legal predecessor of our University was the Reformed Theological Academy of Budapest, founded in 1855 and granted University status by the Hungarian Parliament in 1900. In 1993 the General Assembly of the Hungarian Reformed Church took the decision to establish a multi-faculty University, and this decision was approved later on in the year on 21st September by the Parliament of the Republic of Hungary. Through the creation of Károli Gáspár University, the Hungarian Re… [+] formed Church has fulfilled the aims of its forefathers. Our University, in the spirit of the universitas scientiarium, aims to raise the status of not solely the Church, but also the nation, through its educational, teaching and academic work. The commitment of Károli Gáspár University is to carry on the distinguished traditions of the Reformed Colleges of Sárospatak (founded in 1531), Pápa (founded in 1531), Debrecen (founded in 1538), Kolozsvár (founded in1622) and Nagyenyed (founded in 1632). In addition to the education of ministers of religion, for the purposes of academic research, training for the position of lecturer and for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, and the awarding of degrees, its aims and objectives are to provide BA and MA level basic education in several fields and branches of scholarship, and to be capable of carrying out academic research, in accordance with the aforementioned traditions and in the spirit of the Reformation. The Hungarian Accreditation Committee, in Decision no.1 of June 6th 2000 regarding the standard of education and academic research carried out at Károli Gáspár University, granted our University accredited status as a result of the fact that our educational and research activities conform with the laws currently in force and are, additionally, in accordance with the Hungarian Accreditation Committee opinion and with their guidelines on educational standards. Together, may we receive inspiration on the path to knowledge, morality or goodwill. Every third level study involves a significant component, the participation in international education. Our University puts special emphasis on the opportunities for part-time studies as exchange programmes. Numerous programmes of the European Union make active participation of students in mobility programmes possible. After the foundation of our University we first developed relationships with the Dutch region, but by now we have expanded our connections with the neighbouring countries, overseas and with religious and public universities all over the European Union. We receive continuous financial and professional support from the Socrates and Lifelong Learning Programme/Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci or CEEPUS programmes of the European Commission. Our University’s departments maintain mainly student and teacher mobility relationships but we do consider further developments like joint educational modules, curriculum development and the evolvement of new study programmes. Our aim is to strengthen the European dimension by the complete recognition of credits acquired abroad, the development of the quality of education and foreign language teaching, the extension of projects based on international relationships, the comparison of different educational structures and policies and the use of commonly gained insights. About Budapest and Hungary The area of Hungary is barely 100,000 square km with 10 million inhabitants, whose language is spoken nowhere else in the world. Despite or due to this uniqueness, the Hungarian people have been living in the centre of Europe for over 1,100 years. The natural, cultural and historical riches to be experienced in Hungary are reflected in its high concentration of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, many of which can be found in the capital. Budapest is a hive of top-class music and art, with one of the world’s best opera houses and a host of museums and galleries. Its festivals of all kind (may they be fine art, music, or gastronomy) take place all through the year. Lake Balaton, ideal for sailing and sunbathing, is the largest lake in Central Europe. Nearby is the famous spa town of Hévíz where you can enjoy the pleasure of bathing in a natural thermal lake even in the depths of winter. Hungary’s springs have supported a bathing culture dating back to Roman times. Whether you are after relaxation, refreshment, rejuvenation or recovery, Hungary cannot fail to meet your needs. If you like to keep active and get back to nature, there are countless marked routes for hiking, cycling or horseback riding, often through stunning scenery. This country is the birthplace of world-famous inventors, scientists, explorers, composers and sports stars. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com.
A virtual tour of our University The University of Veterinary Medicine is the only veterinary school in Hungary. It is a state institution supervised and financed by the Hungarian Ministry of Human Capacities and is accredited to issue the diplomas of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) and the postgraduate degree of Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.) in veterinary sciences. The University has an uninterrupted teaching record for more than two centuries, making it thus one of… [+] the oldest veterinary schools in the world. A Brief History of Veterinary Education in Hungary In 1787, shortly after the foundation of the world's first veterinary school (1762, Lyons) a "Chair for Animal Healing" was established at the Faculty of Medicine in the town of Pest (now an area of the city of Budapest) to provide students of medicine and surgery with basic knowledge of animal diseases and their management, an integral part of a general practitioner's activity at that time. As an independent University, the school has earned an international reputation in the first half of the 20th century. As a part of the countrywide reorganization of higher education in 2000, the University became the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the newly founded Szent István University. From summer 2016 our school regained it’s independence thus the former name the University of Veterinary Medicine applies. International Accreditation In 1995 the veterinary school was internationally accredited by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (E.A.E.V.E.). The follow-up visitation took place in 2004 with a positive outcome. The accreditation of the Budapest veterinary school was reinforced by the E.A.E.V.E. and the F.V.E. (Federation of Veterinarians of Europe). The Accreditation Report concludes: "The University of Veterinary Science can claim a proud position among its European counterparts. Its young graduates need not be afraid to compete with their European colleagues for their knowledge and practical skills." Since 2004 Hungary is a full member of the European Union which means acceptance of degrees within the EU and their equivalence with degrees from other EU-countries. The Budapest-diploma is accepted in addition to EU-countries in several others as well. After the completion of a board exam in Canada or the US, the graduates are entitled to a residency and to practice in North America. Facts and Figures The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest is, as appropriate for a country with a population of 10.5 million, the only veterinary school in Hungary. Current enrolment is about 100, 120 and 120 students for the Hungarian, German and English programs, respectively. This means that we have a total of 1400 students at the veterinary school. As in the case of all state universities in the country, the University is officially supervised by the Ministry of Education and its teaching and research programs are also sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Regional Development and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

In 2000, when we had the opportunity to become an independent higher educational institution, we had a definite notion of how to become the intellectual innovation centre of Dunaújváros and the region. We alleged the enlargement of our training and research areas into this service; we have been building a European Campus. For today we can claim that we are prepared for the challenge - with the motorway M6 and the bridge built near Dunaújváros named about the former name of … [+] the settlement, - to build the latest logistic centre of Hungary. With our conscious educational and infrastructural developments we achieved that the number of students has been ten folded in the last fifteen years, and now we have about 3500 students. Our History McDaniel College, Westminster, MD, was founded in 1867 and is one of the first coeducational colleges in the United States. It was originally named after the Western Maryland Railroad Company, whose president offered a generous donation for the building of the first residence halls on College Hill in Westminster, the seat of Carroll County, in Maryland. The college was renamed McDaniel College in 2002, in honor of William Roberts McDaniel, a distinguished member… [+] of the college community – a graduate, later professor, President and Trustee in the first decade of the twentieth century – whose leadership greatly contributed to the growth of the institution. The Budapest campus of McDaniel College was established in 1994. It is located in a beautifully restored, turn of the century school building. Since its founding, more than 200 students who began their studies in Budapest have graduated from McDaniel College. Our Mission THE FIRST PRINCIPLES McDaniel College believes that liberally educated men and women think and act critically, creatively, and humanely. They take charge of their lives and develop their unique potential with reason, imagination, and human concern. They take their place in the global community, understanding their responsibilities to aid individuals and to contribute to the larger society. McDaniel accepts the challenge to provide an academic and social environment that promotes liberal learning. We strive to place students at the center of a humane environment so that they may see and work toward their personal goals while respecting others and sharing responsibility for the common good. We provide a foundation of knowledge about the past and present so that students may be informed about the world. We provide various approaches to knowledge and personal achievement so that students can think critically about, respond creatively to, and form sensitive, intelligent decisions concerning the world and its future. We provide instruction in fundamental skills so that the students can express themselves for their own satisfaction and to the larger community. We provide solid and respected professional programs for the committed student, and, more important, we provide a liberal arts education as an integral part of professional training so that the student will be more flexible, more successful, and happier in the world of work. In the classrooms, in the residence halls, in the laboratories, on the playing fields, and in the lounges, McDaniel College works to disseminate these First Principles. Budapest Campus The Budapest campus is situated in a beautifully restored school building originally constructed in 1896. The building sits on a tree-shaded square across from the Veterinary College of Saint Istvan University. While the outside of the building speaks of Old World charm, the inside contains a college that belongs to the 21st century. A computer lab, reading room, fully equipped classrooms, a cafeteria, a Students’ Club room, and gym facilities are available for student use. Located in the VII district of Budapest, the campus is easily accessible by public transportation, so commuting is easy no matter where a student lives in the city. McDaniel students come from many different countries, but they have one thing in common –opportunities for a rich life outside the classroom and they quickly come to realize that the entire city of Budapest is a potential campus. Various cultural events, cinemas, theatres offering plays in English, international festivals, sports events, and lively nightspots, all at reasonable prices, make the city attractive for students’ interests and budgets. In addition, during the academic year, many extra-curricular activities are organized by the College such as day trips, hiking in the Buda hills, visits to museums, guest lectures, and parties. College Profile McDaniel College is an accredited, private selective College of the Liberal Arts and Sciences, located in Westminster, Maryland, U.S.A., where students from 21 countries prepare for lives of leadership and service. The European Campus of McDaniel College in Budapest is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the accrediting agency for McDaniel College. McDaniel College Budapest is registered in Hungary as a foreign institution of higher education by the permission of the Hungarian Minister of Education. It offers a standard American four-year undergraduate program in Hungary, leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. A unique feature of the program is that students have the option to complete the upper two years of study at the main campus of the college in the United States. In addition, students enrolled at Budapest earn credits that are fully transferable to any other American college or university with the provision that they are based on grades of at least “C‑” or higher. The Budapest Campus of McDaniel College functions as a study abroad center for students from the main campus and other American undergraduates who wish to spend one semester in Europe. It offers an opportunity to take regular college-level courses for credit, while at the same time exploring the “Old World,” since all major cities on the continent are within easy reach of Budapest. The courses at McDaniel College Budapest are taught by a highly qualified and experienced faculty of American, British, and Hungarian professors who have held senior teaching positions both in the United States and in Europe.
