The Environment has been degrading at an alarming rate mainly due to the unsustainable development and the unsustainable use of natural resources. Although environmental conservation has developed significantly over the past few decades, environmental problems have been evolving both in terms of nature and scale. Methods of resolving many environmental problems remain controversial. The MPhil program aims to train postgraduate students to conduct independent research in Atmospheric Environmental Science. Submission and successful defense of a thesis based on original research are required. Research Foci The Environment Science Programs have three main research themes as follows: Air and Water: Includes their relation to climate change. Environmental Change: Studies investigate on regional and local scales, and explore their global effects and implications. The field of Bioengineering is broad, with its foundations in all the engineering sciences as well as in biological, medical, behavioral and health sciences. Joining the Bioengineering Program as a postgraduate student offers you the opportunity to build a bridge between the basic life sciences and engineering and to assist in the advancement of technology. The key discoveries of the 21st century will come from the systematic application of bioengineering principles and discoveries including the intelligent process utilization of biological information, the design of new diagnostic instruments, devices and sensors, the design of biologically inspired engineering systems, the development of new bioprocesses, and the development of health care products and biomedical materials. The MPhil is a research degree that can be pursued either as an end in itself or as a preparation to the PhD degree at either HKUST or elsewhere. While we welcome students from a variety of disciplines to apply, as befits a research degree, we do expect applicants to have a strong background in a social science discipline, and, in addition, the ability to demonstrate promising research potential through a substantial research proposal. This MPhil program seeks to develop students' entrepreneurial spirit so they can initiate innovation within companies or start their own business using hi-tech technologies. It aims to play a catalytic role in developing an innovative educational culture and entrepreneurship ecosystems on the University campus and to accelerate knowledge transfer to impact society. [+]

The opportunities for entrepreneurship are vast in the current global environment. Technical innovations are making great impacts to people’s lives and contributing successes to different economies. In this unique program, students are provided the opportunities to experience the entrepreneurship journey through coursework, internship, and the creation of a marketable product/offering and the business plan that goes with it. The TLE program offers students with interdisciplinary experiences and opens up career prospects to technology management and entrepreneurship. This MPhil program seeks to develop students' entrepreneurial spirit so they can initiate innovation within companies or start their own business using hi-tech technologies. It aims to play a catalytic role in developing an innovative educational culture and entrepreneurship ecosystems on the University campus and to accelerate knowledge transfer to impact society. Students are required to undertake coursework including TLE and technology core courses, attend TLE seminars, participate in business competitions, and undergo industrial internship for a minimum of two months. Students must also successfully complete and defend a thesis that demonstrates their research capabilities for product development and understanding of the commercial aspects on how to make the product successful in the marketplace.
