Kumasi Polytechnic is one of the famous, elegant and vibrant Polytechnics in Ghana. Overview of GIMPA The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) was established in 1961 as a joint Ghana Government/United Nations (UN) special fund project. Originally named the Institute of Public Administration, it was set up as one of the key strategic institutions to develop the public administrative system, to provide civil servants with administrative and professional competence, and to plan and administer national, regional and local services. These schools and colleges, guided by the proverbial Presbyterian discipline, set very high moral as well as educational standards, which have characterized the Presbyterian Education tradition. Also in partnership with government, the church has provided and managed Professional, Technical and Vocational Institutions in a wide range of fields including Agriculture and Health. Specifically, the church has established 1,886 schools comprising 490 Nurseries, 973 Primary Schools, 388 Junior High Schools, five (5) Vocational Institutes, five (5) Colleges of Education and 25 Senior High Schools. The combination of scholarship and professionalism is the foundation of the University’s unique profile.The development of the initial and new range of academic programmes, coupled with trends in tertiary education at both the local and international levels, calls for a review or amendment of the existing Act 566. With the addition of the Weekend Programme, Publication of the Journal of Business Research (JBR) and Graduate Programmes, the University requires a new legal framework and additional resources and strategies to meet its future aspirations. The University has taken steps to propose the review of Act 566 of 1999 and the proposal has received cabinet ascent, waiting for a bill to be drafted for the consideration of Parliament.With the background of the University as described above, it becomes clear that the University is in the process of building its systems and laying the foundation for a solid academic profile, quite different from the requirements of a purely professional or academic Institution.
