Introduction

The University of Bordeaux was newly established in 2014 following the merger of three universities. Ranked among the top universities in France for the quality of its academic courses and research, it was awarded the “Initiative of Excellence” by the French government in 2011.

A multidisciplinary education offer

The University of Bordeaux offers 245 Master and 125 Bachelor programs. The four major scientific fields are Science and Technology / Law, Political Science, Economics, Management / Life and Health Sciences / Social and Human Sciences.

Approximately 12% of students at the University of Bordeaux are international. The university has developed a wide range of international study programs that are taught in English (or other languages) and that offer students the possibility of studying abroad and/or completing joint or double degrees. A leading university in France for participation in the Erasmus Mundus program, the University of Bordeaux offers 9 EU-labelled study programs.

A leading international research university

Research is organized around three departments: Science and Technology / Life and Health Sciences / Social Sciences and Humanities.

Eight doctoral schools ensure support and guidance for Ph.D. students. The research departments group together 70 research laboratories that are under joint supervision with national research organizations.

Clusters of excellence

One of the main priorities of the University of Bordeaux is to promote the development of thematic clusters of excellence for research, training and knowledge transfer in the following fields: neuroscience, medical imaging, environment/climate, advanced materials, archaeology, lasers/optics, digital certification, health and society, and cardiology.

Program factsheet Academic cooperation: Neurasmus consortium (Erasmus+ Master program of Neuroscience). University of Tsukuba (Japan). Other partner universities from the USA, Canada, Europe. Admission requirements: Hold a Bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS) or equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, medical studies, pharmacy, cognitive sciences or psychology with a strong interest in Neuroscience. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in another subject (chemistry, physics, maths, computer science) must provide documented interest in the field of Neuroscience. Excellent grades are expected. Program duration: 2 years (120 ECTS). Language requirements: Proficiency in English is required. Candidates should have adequate knowledge of written and spoken English, equivalent to B2 according to the CEFR. Level: Master degree. This international Master program provides a year of international research into public health data science, from project design to real life health data analysis and the communication of results.

Program factsheet Academic cooperation: The Master of Public Health Data Science is delivered along with the Bordeaux Population Health Research Center. Admission requirements: Candidates must fulfill the following: hold at least a Master (year 1) degree with honors (minimum 240 ECTS or equivalent) in one (or more) of the following disciplines: statistics, informatics or epidemiology. Program duration: 1 year, including an internship (60 ECTS). Language requirements: This program is taught entirely in English. Excellent proficiency in English is therefore required. Students whose native language is not English must provide a TOEFL or IELTS certification: TOEFL score of 550/213/79-80 or IELTS score of 6.0. Level: Master (year 2) of Science in Public Health Data Science.
