The Department of Computer Engineering received the IBM Faculty Award 2011 and has an excellent partnership with experts from the IBM Development Centre in Germany and the IBM research laboratory in Israel.

When studying the Computer and Engineering Systems programme, students are exposed to systems design and modelling, computer architectures and programming, to name few of the topics. Exposure to those topics will position students well for jobs at small, medium and large companies. Energy is becoming more and more a major cost factor for all the players in the energy business due to increased worldwide consumption on the one hand and on the other hand a need to restrict the production of greenhouse gases.

By 2030, the world's energy needs are expected to be 50% greater than today. Nowadays, much of this energy comes from non-renewable sources, such as fossil fuels- coal, oil and gas. These fuels are being used faster rate than they are produced and may be unavailable for future generations. At the same time, there is a need for a 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 to avoid serious changes in the Earth's climate system.

In 2009 TalTech University launched in cooperation with University of Tartu a joint master programme Materials and Processes of Sustainable Energetics which teaches different sustainable energy methods.... [-]

This programme is strongly orientated towards practical, hands-on projects and developing practical skills supported by laboratories of mechatronics, robotics, machine vision, automation, etc. and computer classes.

Most of the courses are project-based supported by theoretical materials. There are several Practical Project courses on the first year containing the topics of machine control, autonomous and industrial robotics and mechatronics and sensory systems aimed to work with some real industrial applications by student groups ending with presenting a conference paper as a rule.
