Algebra University College

Introduction

Based on the trends recognized in employment of IT qualified professionals through the analysis of employers’ needs and based on analyzed characteristics of the labor market in Croatia, the project of establishing Algebra University College was launched in 2006.

The goal of the founders was to create a top quality professional higher education institution that was, along with its program, staff and teaching material, ready to meet the demands of employers and the labor market. The accreditation issued by the National Agency for Science and Higher Education, the results of the re-accreditation in 2012, the quality assurance system evaluation performed by Flemish-Dutch accreditation agency NVAO and the status “Approved by FER” (FER – Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing) supported the fact that these wishes were not ungrounded and confirmed the high level of the University College curriculum.

The University College is a part of the Algebra education group, the founding institution which has been operating on the Croatian market for more than 16 years and has remained the leading educational centre in the region for computing and information technology.

The curricula of all study programs are fully compliant with the ECTS credit system (Bologna Declaration) and are part of the official system of higher education in Croatia, for which the University College received several accreditations from the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports (first temporary accreditation received in June 2008, permanent accreditation in 2010, accreditation for study programs in multimedia computing and graduate study program in June 2012 and accreditations for both study programs in digital marketing in January 2015).

Algebra University College currently employs over 100 teachers and associate lecturers coming from the academic and business sector and according to the quality evaluation results obtained through regular re-accreditation conducted by the National Agency for Science and Higher Education in 2012, represents one of the best study programs in the Republic of Croatia.

Specialized professional graduate study program in digital marketing at the Algebra University College is a clear response to the needs of employers (in Croatia and European Union) within the field of digital marketing and marketing in general. Specialized professional graduate study program in digital marketing at the Algebra University College is a clear response to the needs of employers (in Croatia and European Union) within the field of digital marketing and marketing in general. During the development of the study program, the main starting point for each course consisted in immediate practical applicability of knowledge and skills upon graduation in order to make the introduction to the profession and work place as short as possible. ABOUT STUDY PROGRAM The study program encompasses 21 courses and a graduate thesis conducted in cooperation between the thesis advisor and employers who provide internships for our students. Classes are conducted during a period of 2 semesters or 4 years, and the study program is rated at 120 ECTS credits. Upon the completion of their study program, students acquire the title Professional specialist of digital marketingwhich corresponds to the degree of Professional master in accordance with Art. 74. of the Act on Scientific Activity and Higher Education. Master in Multimedia Computing

Multimedia computing sub-specialization is one of the three sub-specializations of the professional graduate study program in applied computer engineering. Through its compulsory courses, the study program covers the field of e-business and offers acquisition of basic competences at graduate level, while through elective courses of this sub-specialization, students are able to specialize in design and modeling of 3 D digital content, computer multimedia, web content development and engineering aspects of audio and video production. Multimedia computing sub-specialization is one of the three sub-specializations of the professional graduate study program in applied computer engineering. Through its compulsory courses, the study program covers the field of e-business and offers acquisition of basic competences at graduate level, while through elective courses of this sub-specialization, students are able to specialize in design and modeling of 3 D digital content, computer multimedia, web content development and engineering aspects of audio and video production. From the perspective of students, the study program is comprised of 18 courses, of which 8 compulsory and 10 elective courses, that are largely predetermined by the choice of a particular sub-specialization. Elective courses related to this sub-specialization belong to two groups with one course of the first group being taught in each of the first three semesters, while two courses of the second group are taught in the first two semesters and three courses in the third semester. Elective courses are determined by the particular sub-specialization and students are typically offered to acquire necessary knowledge and skills for specialization in a particular narrow area through groups of three logically continued courses (from the first to the third semester). Students enroll in the next year of study in the summer semester, and enrolment in the winter semester of the same year is performed automatically. Software engineering sub-specialization is one of the three sub-specializations of the professional graduate study program in applied computer engineering. Through its compulsory courses, the study program covers the field of e-business and offers acquisition of basic competences at graduate level, while through elective courses of the sub-specialization, students are able to specialize within the field of software engineering by obtaining more knowledge about the following areas: internet programming, development of applications for mobile devices, advanced programming techniques, data warehouses and business intelligence.
