The Department fosters a strong interaction with industry through their Industrial Research Chairs. An M.A.Sc. is expected to take about 24 months.The MASc thesis is prepared with guidance from your Research Supervisor, who must agree to its technical content and findings. The thesis must be approved by a second reader, who may request revisions to the document. The Research Supervisor, in consultation with the second reader, assigns a grade to the thesis. M.A.Sc. degree candidates registered as full-time students are required to spend at least one winter session at the University. M.A.Sc. candidates may also register as part-time students. The MCRP is a 20-month professional master's degree in Planning. It is an innovative and flexible program that anticipates and responds to rapidly changing urban, regional, and global environments. The MCRP curriculum begins with a strong core sequence of 18 credits that is tailored to the evolving demands of the profession. [+]

September 2017 Intake closed. Applications will reopen in October 2017 for September 2018 intake The MCRP is a 20-month professional master's degree in Planning. It is an innovative and flexible program that anticipates and responds to rapidly changing urban, regional, and global environments. The MCRP curriculum begins with a strong core sequence of 18 credits that is tailored to the evolving demands of the profession. Students will additionally undertake a sequence of courses in an area of concentration customized for their interests and professional aspirations. In their second year, students will be required to take a studio course that integrates theories and methods covered throughout the curriculum into a single team-based project with a real or simulated client or community group. The program's Capstone requirement provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their competency through developing a professional portfolio or professional research report. Cumulative program requirements provide students with real world experience and prepare them for entry into a wide variety of planning jobs. The program also features an internship/work experience, and a mentoring program. Concentrations Students can choose from the Indigenous Community Planning (ICP) or Urban Design (UD) concentrations, or they can develop a customized concentration to suit their interests with guidance from their faculty advisor. Course Requirements

The MEng is not a research degree and is intended primarily for candidates who have work experience in addition to a bachelor's degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering. The degree requires 30 credits of advanced coursework, which are divided as follows:

12 credits of CHBE 500 level fundamental courses Additional 6 credits of CHBE 500 level courses OR MEng report The remaining 12 credits may be chosen from CHBE or non-CHBE (Engineering & Science) courses. Our Master of Urban Design program equips future urban designers with the knowledge and skills needed to meet the challenges of modern urban growth. The intensive 11-month curriculum focuses on enhancing your understanding of urban design at all scales—from the neighbourhood block to the regional. The post-professional course of study integrates design studios with courses in urban design history and theory, economics, and public policy. You will have the opportunity to pursue personal interests in the discipline by choosing the focus of your elective courses and research topics. The intersection of academia and the contemporary profession informs our investigation and practical work. Each year, we explore an urban design theme through active partnership with community and regional organizations. In the design studios, you will collaborate with faculty, stakeholders, and professionals on real-world projects for possible future applications. Our students benefit from intimate student-faculty ratios. You will work directly with the practicing professionals who developed Vancouver’s urban design successes. You will have the opportunity to see these achievements up close, through weekly tours to landmark places such as the Olympic Village, Granville Island, and Stanley Park. The urban design faculty and affiliates work alongside you throughout the program and in potential collaborations for local sustainable urbanism projects.
