Introduction

Created in 1968, as the School of Medical Sciences of Alagoas (ECMAL), the State University of Health Sciences of Alagoas (UNCISAL) are a reference in teaching, research, extension, and assistance to the population. UNCISAL offers 10 higher education courses, has a technical school, and has eight assistance or assistance support units.

The institution originates from a surplus class at the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), with the creation of the medical course. In the 1990s, bachelor's degrees in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy were created. In 2006, courses in technology appeared. In 2008, the Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is created.

Currently, in addition to the baccalaureate courses, UNCISAL has higher education courses in food technology, hospital management, radiology, safety at work, and systems for the Internet. The courses in technology in Systems Analysis and Development, Management Processes, and Biomedical Systems are in the process of being deactivated.

The university is also a reference in technical education. The institution has the Technical School of Health Professor Valéria Hora, the only public institution of technical education in Alagoas, which is present in the 102 municipalities of the state and offers qualification for workers working in the Unified Health System (SUS), through covenants.

In assistance, the university has the Santa Mônica Maternity School (MESM), the Helvio Auto School Hospital (HEHA), the Portugal Ramalho School Hospital (HEPR), the Death Verification Service (SVO), the Laboratory Pathology and Medicine Center (CPML), the Rehabilitation Center III (CER III), the Ambulatory of Specialties (AMBESP), the Diagnostic and Image Center and the Psychosocial Care Center (CAPs).
