Introduction

About Us

Young, but oh so impressive. At just a little over 50 years old, the JKU has experienced quite a bit - and has a lot to offer: an outstanding selection of academic degree programs on one hand and on the other, it is a place to be happy. And instead of scattering faculties and departments throughout the city, almost all of the departments are available in one, well-designed modern location. In addition to shorter distances and being able to save time getting from one place to the other, the campus environment supports one important thing in particular: communication. Students and professors spend time together both in and out of the classroom.

Mission Statement

The JKU considers itself a strongly rooted, regional institution but at the same time, an internationally-oriented university propelling itself to become a leading European academic institution.

The JKU's success and potential have been firmly established by its assets and strengths:

  • Deep roots and a strong legacy in the region
  • International activities
  • Anchored as part of society and the local business community
  • Excellent employees
  • Innovation through interdisciplinary practices
  • Real-world practices integrated into teaching and research
  • Strong campus culture

Values

  • Freedom and Responsibility
  • Quality Culture
  • Human Diversity
  • Professional Diversity
  • Research-Led Teaching
  • Broad Horizons
  • Integrity
  • Participation
  • Sustainable Development

Strategy

JKU's development plan outlines a defined course of action designed to actively support the university's development and strategic growth. The plan aims to continue sharpening the university's profile, expanding on its strengths, and addressing new topics as part of an intra-systematic development.

To stay in line with its mission, the university aims to structurally enhance its profile by continuing to develop its organizational system along a matrix. This includes creating interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research groups and supporting a research approach that provides internal, competitive university funding. Research-led teaching will include a quality offensive to develop interdisciplinary degree programs such as NaWiTec, Medical Engineering, and Business Psychology. In addition, advancements in modern engineering in Linz include combining core expertise in mechatronics and polymer engineering to create a new program in mechanical engineering.
