The main objective of this specialism in Control and Robotics is to master the modeling and control of complex robots evolving in dynamic environments by using proprioceptive and exteroceptive perception. The focus is on advanced robotics, but more generally the specialism deals with modern techniques in systems engineering for the modeling simulation, optimization, analysis, and control of a variety of robotics systems.

This Master of Science (“laurea magistrale”) trains industrial mechanical engineers able to work in a wide range of areas and interdisciplinary projects combining mechanical and digital manufacturing engineering skills with management and logistics competencies.

The Master of Science in Engineering Technology (MSET) degree in Mechatronics and Robotics (MERO) will provide students with an interdisciplinary applied engineering education through coursework, project, and thesis work. Students will learn fundamental and applied concepts of real-world mechatronic and robotic systems including interface theory, sensing and actuation systems, hardware and software integration, modeling and control.

In the Master’s Programme in Mechatronics, you will learn how to apply artificial intelligence to control systems of machines and processes, including maintenance, services, and programming. You will learn about digital twins and autonomous machine systems and the development and usability of user interfaces.

Automotive Mechatronics is a life-cycle activity that involves the multidisciplinary integration of automotive mechanical and electronic systems. You will gain skills across automotive-specific mechanics, electronics, communication, advanced control and modelling.

Specific objectives of specialization: preparing mechatronics engineers for multidisciplinary research; initiating technical cooperation in the area of advanced mechatronics by deepening specialization and applied mechatronics; deepening mechatronic systems using nuanced and relevant evaluation criteria and methods - simulation modeling - to formulate value judgments and base constructive decisions; acquisition of information technology with applicability in mechatronics through the development of practical skills for design and technological construction of components and methods of using acquisition systems and image processing; preparing students for a thorough knowledge of components of mechatronic systems; developing creative behavior with specific mechatronic products through the development of professional projects and/or research; underlining the need for diagnosis and maintenance of mechatronic systems; skills needed for students to design, optimize and deploy applications in industrial mechatronics, services, medicine, the military, virtual and augmented reality applications, etc; addressing problems in the spirit of constantly dynamic economy requirements.

Master degree programme Mechatronics offers a carefully selected blend of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Cybernetics, and Computer Engineering. The range of available courses includes subjects like design and control of electrical drives, big data mining, artificial intelligence techniques, computer vision, smart technologies, advanced automatic control theory, renewable power sources and many others. Such multidisciplinary education is particularly important in this time of ongoing fourth industrial revolution. Thanks to this education the graduates have excellent career prospects in the smart factories of future as well as in research and public institutions. Optionally this study programme can be provided in cooperation with the University of Applied Studies Zittau/Görlitz in Germany. Students who choose this option will be awarded with two master’s degrees: from the Technical University of Liberec and from the University of Applied Studies Zittau/Görlitz.

The aim of the second cycle of full-time studies in the field of Mechatronic Devices and Systems is to prepare students to design mechatronic devices and to solve complex, interdisciplinary design and construction problems.
