The MA in Classics & Ancient Civilizations: Classics offers a broad approach to Antiquity through the integration of classical languages and ancient cultural history. We have strong expertise in Hellenistic literature, Greek linguistics, Greek religion, Latin poetry of the early Empire, and Literature in its spatial and socio-cultural context. We also provide excellent teaching: two of the staff members were already elected Lecturers of the Year. In Groningen, we offer the MA in Classics & Ancient Civilizations: Ancient History as a one-year Master's track -in English- with a full-time and a part-time tangent. While we cover the whole of antiquity, from archaic Greece to the late Roman Empire, our focus lies on the political, cultural, and religious connectivities of the Mediterranean world.

The Research Master in Modern History and International Relations offers a challenging multidisciplinary approach, with Intensive supervision by high-quality researchers in small groups. We also offer research assistantships.

Are you interested in the history, literature and culture of classical, medieval and early modern civilizations? Do you aspire to a career in research? This track is just what you are looking for.

The MA in Politics, Organizations, and Learning Histories at the University of Groningen prepares you to answer these types of questions about the inner workings of organizations. You are taught how to gain historical insight into long-term problems within organizations and how to solve these, after which you become an expert in using the past to solve current issues. The track is unique in its implementation of historical thinking to all kinds of organizations.

The MA in History and Heritage Consultancy offers a broad range of methodological and research courses, which allows for a specialization in your field of interest and flexibility in your planning. You learn to interrogate the complexities of history and heritage present in buildings, objects, practices, customs, and opinions of the past. You also develop relevant professional skills—for example, by completing assignments for public or heritage institutions, such as the Groninger Museum—which prepare you for immediate employment in history and heritage.

The Research Master's degree programme in History offers the two-year Master's tracks Classical, Medieval and Early Modern Studies. Classical, Medieval and Early Modern Studies explores Classical Antiquity, the Middle Ages and Early Modernity in Europe and the Middle East. You will study the similarities and differences between these periods. In addition, you will gain fundamental insights into the cultural changes that preceded the modern period.

The MA in Religion and Pluralism, Ancient & Modern was chosen as the best MA program in Theology and Religious Studies in the Netherlands. It offers an integrated approach of religious pluralism, politics, and their many global interfaces, with a focus on the historical context of modern societies.
