As our population ages, the need grows for adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioners. UToledo’s programs prepare advanced practice nurses to provide comprehensive, acute care to the adult-gerontological and frail elderly population. Our nationally ranked M.S.N. and D.N.P. programs educate outstanding advanced practitioners who often find jobs before they graduate. We offer several routes for nurses who want to become NPs and sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification or American Association of Critical Care Nursing (AACN) certification.

With rising age expectancy comes the need for educated adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioners (AGPCNPs). With the population of approximately 10 million people (in our area) of which approximately 15 percent are over the age of 65, the need for adult gerontology primary care nurse practitioners is evident. To address this issue the role of the non-physician clinician, such as the nurse practitioner, needs to be enhanced by developing new educational and training programs which is the goal of this graduate program.
