What is Data and Privacy Law?
Data and privacy law refers to the national and international laws that regulate the collection, storage, use, and disclosure of personal data and information. What careers are available in Data and Privacy Law?
Several different careers fall under the umbrella of data and privacy law. These include data privacy lawyers who advise businesses on compliance with data privacy laws; data protection officers who develop and implement policies and procedures to protect personal data; and information security specialists who work to secure digital systems and prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information. Professionals with data and privacy law degrees might work for a large company to implement and maintain data protection policies or enter a law firm intending to specialize in cases dealing with breaches of data and privacy laws.
What will I study during a Data and Privacy Law degree?
There are various degree programs and coursework options available for individuals interested in pursuing a career in data and privacy law. Some possible degrees include a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, a Master of Information Systems Security, or a Juris Doctor. Coursework may include topics such as data privacy law regulations, information security management, and data mining and analysis.
A masters is earned after students complete an undergraduate degree program. To obtain a masters, you usually need to complete 12 to 18 college courses that often involve completing comprehensive tests and/or a thesis.
