While generally only taking a year or two to complete, a master’s degree demonstrates a high-level understanding of a subject. A Master of Arts typically denotes a humanities or artistic field versus a Master of Science.
What is an MA in Library Science? A graduate field covering the collection, preservation, organization, and dissemination of media, library science explores the place of the library in modern society. This may include the management of brick-and-mortar libraries and online information that relates to them. Although archival science tends to be a separate field, there is generally some archival work in library science. Areas of emphasis that may be offered include information studies, knowledge management, and social media and communications.
The organizational skills you gain during your program are helpful whether you find a career in library services or elsewhere. You may also see improvement in communication and leadership skills, which are beneficial to any career.
If you contact the institution’s financial department, you can receive more information on the cost of the program. Other considerations such as travel expenses or housing should also be included in your budget.
