A master’s degree is an advanced postgraduate degree awarded to those who have pursued concentrated study in a particular field. A Master of Arts degree is traditionally offered to students in the humanities or social sciences.
What is an MA in Japanese Studies? This program allows students the opportunity to immerse themselves in Japanese language and culture. Through the interdisciplinary study of subjects such as political science, linguistics, Japanese literature, Japanese history, and Japanese art history, students can become experts in the field. While not all universities require fluent Japanese language skills, many do, and others recommend at least some knowledge of the language. Different universities allow different levels of student-led options. Some schools allow an individual to determine his or her area of focus or specialization; for example, a student might be able to focus on Japanese law.
