Theatre for Young Audiences is a practical training program for performers and makers from a range of disciplines, that explores approaches to making work for, by, and with children and young people. Underpinning the course is the ambition to define Theatre for Young Audiences as a cutting-edge arts practice, outside (or perhaps alongside) the Applied Theatre framing that so often dominates this area of training, encouraging co-creative processes that balance the sensibilities of the adult artist and the creative voice of children and young people.

The MA Dramaturgy program at Leeds Conservatoire is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the theory and practice of dramaturgy, preparing them for careers in theatre, performance, and related fields. Here's an overview of what you can expect from the program: Theoretical Foundations: Students will engage with key concepts and theories in dramaturgy, including dramatic structure, narrative techniques, genre analysis, and cultural context. Through seminars, lectures, and independent study, students will develop a critical understanding of dramatic texts and performance practices.

Develop your ability to contextualise, critique, and create. This MA addresses the historical, political, theoretical and ethical issues of applied theatre, and explores the ways in which theatre and performance are created by diverse groups of people.

This course combines intensive movement-based studio practice, collaborative facilitations, seminars, and a shared research unit with other MA students which creates a learning environment that encourages personal exploration, collaboration and critical reflection. The Sesame approach is underpinned by Jungian psychology and draws together Laban movement, play theory, Billy Lindkvist’s work with movement with touch and sound, and a mythopoetic approach to the psyche. There is also the opportunity for immersive practice in the key subject areas of Laban movement, myth, movement with touch and sound, and drama. This is allied with studies in developmental and analytical psychology, specifically the work of Jung. The group process is central to the student experience and supported by a weekly session across the first three terms that explores interpersonal dynamics between members and draws from group analytic theory.

An acceptable level of proficiency in English or Afrikaans is required.

The first and only MA of its kind to focus on queer performance, this course offers broad training in a range of queer performance practices, delivered by renowned queer artists, theatre-makers, academics, and researchers. Fiercely socially engaged, political, experimental, and interdisciplinary, the course provides an in-depth, comprehensive examination of queer performance practice, studying its themes, methodologies, and untapped possibilities.

CIIS’ Drama Therapy program explores how dramatic processes work overtime to heal wounds for lasting change, and to help people reach their full potential. The Drama Therapy program is one of five master’s programs offered through the Counseling Psychology department, and offers an engaging, embodied, and interactive experience to students. It integrates experiential, didactic, and clinical courses in a curriculum designed to train students to become personally and culturally attuned to become master drama therapists.

The MA in Applied Theatre degree program, the first program of its kind in the United States, uses theatre as a medium for education, community development, and the pursuit of social justice.
