Introduction
The Institute of Facility Management is continuously developing the range of courses at bachelor's and master's levels. The aim is to train excellently qualified specialists and executives for the real estate and facility management industry. The course previously known as the Master of Science in Facility Management (MSc in FM) is currently being augmented with additional expertise in banking and finance. From the autumn semester of 2022, the course will commence under the title of “Master of Science in Real Estate and Facility Management” (MSc REFM). Combining the competencies of the Institute for Facility Management and the Banking and Finance department make this Master of Science course unique in Switzerland. Admission to the MSc REFM is based on the successful completion of the IFM's bachelor's degree in facility management. However, admission is also open to those with a degree in real estate management, business administration, architecture, engineering, and/or hospitality management. The students become qualified for management positions in the diverse strategic areas of responsibility of real estate and facility management where technical and business areas intersect. Thanks to the interdisciplinary competencies they acquire, they are optimally equipped for the challenges of digital transformation and sustainability in the dynamic context of supply and demand in the real estate market. This includes new technological possibilities as well as the topics of energy management, circular economy, and sustainability. Future graduates are “facilitators” and “relationship managers” and benefit from outstanding career prospects.
