Introduction
The Global Public Health Nutrition MSci is designed for students interested in pursuing a career focused on using their knowledge of food to improve health outcomes for communities on a local, national and global level.
This four-year course integrates undergraduate and postgraduate education into a single degree, where each year has been designed to develop your personal and professional skills as you progress.
You’ll develop a broad understanding of nutritional issues and take a social science approach to the traditional disciplines of nutrition, epidemiology and statistics, enabling you to identify, implement and evaluate public health strategies and address nutritional problems within sociopolitical and public health contexts.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) are woven throughout the course, allowing you to view critical global issues and challenges through the lens of nutrition. In the first three years, you’ll analyse how relevant the SDGs are in improving health, wellness and prosperity within diverse community groups and explore topics such as devising nutritional policy in emergencies. This provides a solid foundation for postgraduate study in the final year, focused on the development of specialist practitioner skills in global public health nutrition.
You’ll have the opportunity to undertake a 'real world' mini-project in the Community Engagement in Sport, Physical Activity and Nutrition module in the third year. This will give you the chance to design and implement a live project to enhance the health and well-being goals of a specific community. In the final year, you can choose to build on this experience in an extended independent project on a contemporary topic related to global public health nutrition.
