Curriculum

As a general rule, every study programme comes with its own set of conditions.

If you don't have a Flemish degree you will need to submit an online application for permission to study.
Application prerequisite for the programme Master of Science in Applied Informatics is an

 academic bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or equivalent.


Equivalency and admission to the programme will be based on a review of the student’s academic record and will be evaluated case by case.

Entering in the second semester (February) is possible under certain conditions.

Prospective students can provide proof of sufficient knowledge of English as the language of instruction by meeting 

having a diploma of secondary education where English was the unique language of instruction, excluding eventual language courses

having a diploma of higher education where English was the language of instruction

having successfully completed secondary education organised (by an educational establishment accredited) by the Flemish, French-speaking or German-speaking Community

having successfully completed one of the following language proficiency tests corresponding to the Common European Framework of Reference with minimum level B2: TOEFL iBT with minimum level: 79; IELTS with minimum level: academic module 6.5; ITACE with minimum level: B2 or Cambridge English Qualification Scale with the following minimal level: 170.

Certificates and other proof of language tests may not pre-date the first enrolment by more than five years.

We are a public university and thus subsidized by the government. This results in relatively low tuition fees for the bachelor’s, master's, and PhD programs. We have some scholarships available for our

A complete fitness center, a soccer field with an athletics track, a modern swimming pool, and even a bowling alley... There are also numerous competitions where students and student associations compete with each other. No matter which campus you study on, you can easily access all facilities, available at an affordable price, to lead a physically, mentally, and socially healthier life. You can engage in sports at various levels and with different partners.

An open, artistic laboratory: that is Pilar, the VUB's house for art and science. Its colorful playbill lists both the hottest musical acts and up-and-coming visual artists. It also holds themed festivals and theatre performances, and its Barak Lili M is a breeding ground for young, artistic, and cultural entrepreneurs. In Bar Pilar, you can talk to nineteen to a dozen after a performance or exposition. The bar is open even on those rare occasions when there is nothing to see or hear in Pilar.

The VUB Study Guidance Centre (SBC) helps you enhance your study success. You can go there with questions that are important to the progress of your studies at every stage of your educational career. A motivated and experienced team will provide you with custom-made guidance. This can be done individually or in groups.

When you want to learn something, there’s nothing like a book. Or a magazine or newspaper as a close second. Both types of media are present in large numbers in the Main Campus library. You can find the titles or authors you are looking for in the online catalog. And, as befits a central library, it is always wonderfully quiet. So you can read and study there undisturbed.

The VUB offers a comprehensive range of health resources to support student well-being. These include mental health services provided by student psychologists, who offer support for various challenges such as stress management, overcoming fears, and enhancing motivation. It is also possible to make appointments with a general practician, physiotherapist, or dentist.
