Introduction
The English Studies programme offers a dynamic and interdisciplinary education that allows students to specialise in one of three distinct yet interconnected fields: Linguistics, Media Discourse, and Literature, Linguistics, and Culture. Each of these tracks provides a rich foundation in theoretical and empirical studies, while also focusing on practical skills for modern applications.
Linguistics
The Linguistics track focuses on the contemporary trends in linguistics and cross-linguistic research methods. It equips students with the knowledge and skills to become independent researchers and linguists. With an emphasis on creative problem-solving, this track prepares graduates for roles in academia or language-related careers. Students will explore the intricate mechanics of language use, structure, and change, gaining the expertise to apply these concepts in research, teaching, or professional practice.
Media Discourse
The Media Discourse track merges linguistics with media studies, giving students an in-depth understanding of how language operates within modern media landscapes. Special courses in Media Linguistics help students apply the latest theories and methods in media analysis and production. This track hones communicative skills across various public spheres, enabling students to create and critique modern media products effectively. It is ideal for those seeking to work in media industries or public communication roles, blending linguistic theory with practical media expertise.
Literature, Linguistics, and Culture
The Literature, Linguistics, and Culture track is an interdisciplinary option that covers a broad spectrum of English studies. It delves into the interplay between literature, language, and cultural expression, offering students a comprehensive perspective on how these elements shape and reflect society. This track is suited for those interested in exploring English's cultural and literary dimensions, with a curriculum that includes subject-specific courses and interdisciplinary approaches. The programme also encourages the development of social and academic skills through integrated teaching methods, preparing students for careers in education, cultural sectors, or further academic research.
Each track within the English Studies programme is designed to foster intellectual growth, creativity, and practical application, providing students with the skills needed to succeed in a variety of fields related to English language and culture.
