Achievements must always be remembered. Even more so when it comes to a 50-year history of achievements. It is with the feeling of leaving its trajectory in education for the whole society that Universo, through its Scientific Initiation Program, launched the documentary Educação 50 Anos.

The documentary tells the saga of the Salgado de Oliveira family together with education from its origin in the municipality of Cordeiro until it reached the creation of the university, now present in five Brazilian states. The story is told from the reports of people who participated in this half-century trajectory, especially Professor Marlene Salgado de Oliveira and Professor Joaquim de Oliveira, who started everything.

Images were recorded in the municipality of Cordeiro, where teacher Marlene was born and spent her childhood, and in São Gonçalo, a city where when she was young and founded her first school, with 33 students. The documentary is also a tribute to Colégio Dom Hélder Câmara, founded on October 12, 1959, and gave rise to one of the largest institutions in the country today.

Educação 50 Anos lasts 21 minutes and includes testimonials from educators, friends, and family members who helped to build the institution's history. The documentary is the result of a master's project in History at UNIVERSO, linked to the line of research Heritage, Memory, and Identity. Undergraduate students participated in the project, whose final presentation is the documentary itself.

The main objective of the project is to rescue the historical memory of the Salgado de Oliveira family in the construction of an educational project that celebrates its 50th anniversary. “With values and innovative ideas in the field of education and culture translated into Colégio Dom Hélder Câmara, Professor Marlene Salgado led a movement for the growth and expansion of this project, which culminated in the creation of Universo, today with national projection”, highlights the professor Regina Costa, advisor and coordinator of the project.
