Introduction

The Master’s degree in Mathematics is characterized by a solid and modern approach to mathematics as in the best and most recent national and international experiences in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). It is taught in English and many of the lectures are held by foreign professors from partner institutions, which are at the top of international rankings. The educational paths of the course are aimed at expanding the mathematical knowledge acquired in a bachelor's degree course and deepening it in some specific areas. They are structured to provide students with advanced skills in the main mathematical methods used in scientific, social, and economic fields. The course promotes the acquisition of transversal skills aimed at the most complete education of the student and usable for the subsequent path of job placement, recognizing an adequate number of university credits (ECTS) to those who follow with profit the courses that are specifically offered by the University or other institutions.

The course is structured in two curricula. The Applied Mathematics curriculum, highly professionalizing, is based on solid modeling and computational preparation that covers, for example, industrial and applied mathematics, data and decision science, mathematical finance, and cryptography. The Mathematics for Education curriculum is characterized in particular by the teaching of didactics and foundations of mathematics, computer science, and physics, with laboratories also in the educational field. The study path can be personalized through the attendance of some courses at the University of Trento, with which it is active in agreement, and participating in international mobility programs. The Master's Degree Program is a teaching center of ECMI (European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry): with appropriate choices in the study plan, it is possible to obtain the ECMI certificate. Starting from the academic year 2020/21 it is also possible to participate in the double degree program with the Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble (France). Support actions are foreseen for students who are unable to attend classes (e.g. sharing of teaching materials, video lectures, etc.). Internships are possible in companies of national and international importance, for example in the banking, insurance, and industrial sectors, research laboratories, and educational institutions. These features guarantee high competitiveness in the job market and in scientific and technological research.

The master's graduate in Mathematics in Verona can successfully join working groups in the research and development sectors of companies and industries, scientific laboratories of public and private institutions (data analysis, software analysis and development, cryptography, and security, modeling and simulation in a virtual environment, model development and analysis of biomedical processes, methodologies and technologies for Industry 4.0...) and at financial and banking institutions or insurance companies, at national and international level.

The master's graduate in Mathematics can also enter the teaching profession, in Italy, in middle and high school. He/she has the opportunity to fulfill the curricular requirements for access to the following teaching classes: Mathematics and Science in middle schools, Mathematics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science in high schools. Moreover, by completing the 24CFU course in the disciplines of pedagogy, psychology, and anthropology, and related to teaching methods and technologies, he/she can compete for tenure-track positions in schools.

The master's graduate in Mathematics is able to successfully pursue studies at the Ph.D. level both in Mathematics and in other scientific fields (e.g. Computer Science, Statistics, Economics and Finance, Bioengineering, and Biomedical Sciences) in Italy and abroad.
