Introduction
The educational program will lead the Master’s Degree student to an in-depth knowledge of the specific ecological processes of the marine and coastal environment, thus being able to contribute both to their conservation and to the sustainable management of the goods and services they produce. The Master’s Degree will cover a number of topics related to the functioning of marine and coastal environments, to marine biodiversity and research, and to the characterization of new resources for the development of innovative biotechnological products and processes.
The training course aims to provide students with:
• In-depth knowledge in the field of biological and ecological disciplines, both basic and applied to the marine environment;
• Elements of applied management, useful to adequately contextualize biological resources in the reference environmental system;
• Methods of laboratory analysis and field monitoring in the different disciplines, also taking into account the main environmental directives;
• Methods for the research, characterization, and sustainable exploitation of marine diversity for biotechnological purposes.
• Professional experiences through external and/or internal training activities, such as internships and the preparation of an experimental thesis.
At the end of the program, the following skills will be acquired:
• Monitoring and management of environmental systems and processes with specific reference to biological resources;
• Design and management of assessment, rehabilitation, restoration, and conservation of the coastal and marine environment;
• Sustainable management and conservation of marine biodiversity;
• Research and characterization of new marine resources for innovative biotechnological processes.

Ideal Students
Students wishing to enrol in this Master Degree Course must be in possession of a bachelor’s degree or other qualification obtained abroad recognized as eligible under current legislation.
An ideal student of Marine Biology and Ecology is fascinated by biodiversity issues, interested in sustainable technological innovation and aimed at identifying and effectively solving environmental issues through an interdisciplinary approach. To this purpose, an ideal student will also have to master critical and synthesis skills, which will be acquired through continuous interactions with the world of both basic and applied research. This will allow making the best use of the skills acquired in the areas of management, conservation, and sustainable exploitation of marine resources.

Scholarships and Funding
Regional Scholarship
Every year, approximately on June, is published the Call for Application by LazioDisco, the Regional Authority for the Right to Higher Education, you can apply for:
Scholarship (Euros 5.257,74 per year for non-residents)
Accommodation (University dormitory or private apartments)
University of Tuscia Scholarship
The University of Tuscia offers, every year, several scholarships for international students who will enroll in one of its programmes.
Program Outcome
The objectives of this Master’s degree course aim to train a highly qualified and specialized professional figure, able to apply expertise in biology to issues related to research, environmental management, and biotechnological development. The course trains the marine environmental biologist who knows, classifies and solves environmental matters with a systemic and interdisciplinary approach, favoring skills in the management, conservation, and sustainable exploitation of marine resources.
The Marine Environmental Biologist is provided with a thorough knowledge of the marine environment, aimed at identifying and effectively solving environmental issues through an interdisciplinary approach. To this purpose, the Marine Environmental Biologist will also have to master critical and synthesis skills, which will be acquired through continuous interactions with the world of both basic and applied research. This will allow making the best use of the skills acquired in the areas of management, conservation, and sustainable exploitation of marine resources.
