Introduction
The Master's Degree Course in Food Engineering aims to train a professional figure of a technical nature, the food engineer, who uses the typical methods of chemical and process engineering to solve problems in the food industry.
This methodological approach represents a distinctive element of the Master's Degree Course in Food Engineering of the University of Salerno compared to other similar courses offered in Europe, in which Food Engineering is born from Food Technologies rather than Process Engineering.
At the end of the course of study, graduates in Food Engineering will be able to:
- develop innovative projects in terms of product and process;
- analyze the problems of the choices and sizing of process equipment;
- autonomously identify and solve complex problems;
- manage complex and/or innovative systems, processes, and services;
- design and manage experiments of a certain complexity.
He will also have knowledge of the context and in the field of business organization (business culture) and will be equipped with transversal skills in order to be able to compare himself with colleagues from other backgrounds.
The Degree Course in Food Engineering lasts two years for a total of 120 ECTS.
Among the objectives of the course, there is that of developing in the graduate the aptitude for research and to operate independently, and that of increasing the communication skills of the work performed. These objectives are also pursued thanks to the thesis activity, which ends with the preparation and presentation of a final paper. The Master's Degree Course in Food Engineering is international, ensuring the delivery in English of the entire teaching offer, including courses in common with the Master's Degree Course in Chemical Engineering.
Graduates will be able to operate both in an industrial context with highly autonomous or managerial functions, and as a freelancer after passing the state exam and enrolling in the register of engineers in the province of residence.
The CdS participates in international student mobility programs and encourages its students to take courses and take some exams at foreign universities, staying there for periods ranging from 2 to 6 months. It is also possible to carry out the thesis or internships abroad. For years the CdS has framed its activities in a quality system. In particular, it participated from 2002 to 2004 in the CampusOne Project and in 2006 and 2007 in the Campus Campania project for the application of a quality system to all study courses of the University of Salerno. Since 2011, the CdS adheres to the CRUI / EUR-ACE Model for Quality Certification and has achieved the EUR-ACE accreditation of the Bachelor's and Master's Degree Courses in Engineering.
