Introduction
The Master of Education (MEd) program with a specialization in world and heritage education is a professional degree for individuals wishing to pursue advanced study in the field of teaching and learning foreign languages. Courses implement a practice-based approach to enhance students’ knowledge and application of particular teaching strategies that have been identified as essential to the field of foreign language education.
Curriculum
The program coursework emphasizes current theories and methods for teaching and evaluating students as well as curriculum and materials development. Unique features of the program include six credits of practicum coursework and six credits of research methodology.
Degree Requirements
Students complete a guided research project on a topic of their choice and must successfully pass the World and Heritage Language Education Comprehensive Exam near the end of their program.

There are no specific prerequisites for the program.
Career Opportunities
Many of our students gain positions teaching foreign languages (e.g. Chinese, English as a Foreign Language, Spanish, French, German) either in the U.S. or internationally. Some obtain positions in educational organizations. Several of our part-time students enter the program with teaching positions and maintain these positions. Upon completing the program, many graduates become leaders in their school contexts. Some of our students continue their graduate work in either PhD or EdD programs.
