Master in
Master's Degree in Integrity and Durability of Materials, Components and Structures University of Oviedo

Introduction
Professional outings
The Interuniversity Master in Integrity and Durability of Materials, Components and Structures jointly proposed by the Universities of Burgos, Cantabria and Oviedo intends to confer on engineering graduates specialized training in the analysis of behavior in service of materials and industrial components, from its sizing and calculation, going through the selection of the appropriate material or materials and their manufacturing, union and protection processes. The program focuses on the study of deterioration processes in service of all types of components and materials, as a result of the action of mechanical loads, extreme temperatures or aggressive environments, as well as the presence of defects and the interaction of all these actions. Another important aspect that is dealt with during the course is the assessment of the existing defects and the calculation of the life of the components in the different service situations (under static and dynamic loads, at low and high temperatures, in the presence of environments of greater or less aggressive) as well as the analysis of failures of varied real components, in order to propose corrective measures to prevent their repetition.
With all this will train technicians able to apply the extensive existing knowledge on these particular subjects, in order to design, build, assemble and maintain components and structures capable of providing a safe service during the expected design life period and undertake actions aimed at lengthen the life of these same components.
The acquired knowledge can be put to value in very varied industrial sectors, such as metal and materials in general, chemical and petrochemical, capital goods, power generation, automotive, etc.
To this end, the existence of research groups that are working successfully in this field in the three universities involved will be used. In addition, contacts have been established with several technological and research centers that are developing notable activities in this field, as well as with companies interested in having specialized technicians in all these subjects.
This interuniversity Master aims to train specialists capable of leading, in the future, the scientific and technological innovations that will be realized in increasing the safety in the service of numerous components and industrial facilities, avoiding failures and accidents, increase the useful life of the mentioned facilities and to use the available materials in the best possible way.
Curriculum
The Master's Degree in Integrity and Durability of Materials, Components and Structures has been designed as an inter-university program in which three Spanish universities participate: the University of Oviedo, the University of Burgos and the University of Cantabria. Each subject of the Master has been awarded to one of the three participating universities, which will designate one of its professors to act as responsible for it. Said professor will teach the basic aspects to the students enrolled in the three universities, using the videoconference system or a computer program of similar utility. Also, in each University and in each subject there will be a second teacher who will answer the doubts of the students, will teach support classes, etc.
The Master is divided into 4 modules plus the Master's Thesis:
- Basic module (8 ECTS)
- Structural integrity (20 ECTS)
- Auxiliary technologies of a professional nature (12 ECTS)
- Specialized module (8 ECTS) and Final Master's Project (12 ECTS)

(*) For the follow-up of the subjects whose theoretical syllabus is taught from another university other than the student's enrollment, a videoconference system will be used. However, the practical classes of all the subjects will be taught in the three participating universities.
(**) All subjects will be taught assigning 15 hours to the exhibition of the contents of the same and 15 hours more for the realization of exercises of application of the theory, execution of practical work in the laboratory, visits to companies, etc., In addition to the hours necessary to expose the individual or group work requested in each case.
