The Master in Molecular and Computational Biomedicine at the University of Luxembourg enables students to acquire a deeper knowledge of biosciences taking into account new technologies. This involves handling large amounts of data and thus bioinformatics and network analysis are essential elements in this modern education in biosciences. Systems Biology (an extension of Biochemistry and Physiology) wants to understand and model systems: individual cells, organs, and whole organisms on the basis of their constituting molecules. It integrates established disciplines in Biosciences and renovates them for the challenges of the future.
Strengths
- Combination of life sciences and computational science
- Use of the most modern technologies in biosciences
- Early involvement in research projects
- Strong links with the Department of Life Sciences and Medicine (DLSM) and Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) at the University of Luxembourg
Admissions
Program Outcome
- Recognize in the context of multi-layer complexity of cells and organisms the key elements, methods, and procedures of omics technologies, bioinformatics, and systems biology.
- Associate these key technologies and principles with fundamental questions in the understanding of common diseases and biological processes in general.
- Relate published data and own results from experiments and modeling.
- Critically analyze the impact of these findings on molecular medicine and biological processes in general.
- Assemble this information in form of an MSc thesis.
- Develop thereby a high degree of autonomy and leadership skills.
- Evaluate the impact of the project results as a basis for possible patenting, publication, and/or grant applications.
- Become an interdisciplinary researcher in life sciences being able to work in international team environments
- Learn to manage uncertainty, risk, and failure when they arise.
