Introduction
The Master’s degree program in Mathematics teaches students advanced and in-depth knowledge and skills in the field of (Applied) Mathematics and Statistics. Students learn from renowned scientists and experienced practitioners from the field of Mathematics in small, manageable groups. Specializations are possible in the following focus areas:
- Applied Analysis
- Applied Statistics
- Discrete Mathematics
The in-depth specialization is based on a prior common mathematical foundation across all three areas.
Students can acquire an additional application-oriented qualification by taking the extension subjects Informatics and Information and Communications Engineering.
This education provides students with the in-depth qualifications necessary to be deployed in the finance and insurance sector, in high-tech companies, in the consultancy branch, in the medical and pharmaceutical field, and also in research and post-secondary education.
Particularities
Practical training and excellent teaching represent the core of the Master’s degree program in Mathematics. Students can study interactively and gain admittance to courses without frustrating waiting times. Internationally renowned scientists share their cutting edge knowledge with their students. There is a pronounced practical relevance thanks to the extension subjects Informatics and Information and Communications Engineering.
The campus in Klagenfurt offers excellent supervision arrangements and small seminar groups. Students can get in touch with their lecturers personally and it is quick and easy to find friends and establish connections here!
Study objectives
After completing their studies, graduates of the Master’s degree will be able to abstract problems that arise in practice, subsequently formulate mathematical models, address this using the techniques they have learned, and discuss the resulting solutions in an interdisciplinary context.
They can analyze, simulate, evaluate, and implement accordingly, using modern symbolic as well as numerical tools. In the academic field, the degree program conveys a sufficient degree of familiarity with modern mathematical methods, so that current research questions can be appropriately addressed.
Prerequisites
Bachelor’s degree program in Mathematics or a degree program of equivalent academic value at another post-secondary educational institution.
Careers and occupational profiles
