Introduction
The Master's Degree Programme in Chemistry and Analytics for Circular Economy is a two-year (120 ECTS) full-time programme given in English. It is provided by the Faculty of Mathematics and Science.
CACE combines the basics of circular economy as well as the recovery and upcycling of both metals and bio-based materials in its course curriculum, with a strong focus on analytical chemistry. Major subject is chemistry with a minimum of 75 ECTS, and you can choose optional studies for example from business, leadership, marketing, statistics, planetary wellbeing, information seeking, career planning, communications and language studies to fulfill 120 ECTS. Teaching includes practical hands-on training with instrumental analysis.
Applications for this master's degree programme can be submitted once a year in January, and if you are accepted, your studies will begin in August. From this programme you will graduate with a Master of Science degree.
Why this programme?
CACE offers you unique expertise in the chemistry of circular economy. The curriculum combines the basics of circular economy as well as the recovery and upcycling of both metals and bio-based materials, with a strong focus on analytical chemistry. Teaching includes many practical courses on instrumental techniques in organic and inorganic analytical chemistry using modern chemical instruments at the Department of Chemistry. The students of CACE gain hands-on skills that are highly valued by potential employers, for example in chemical and forest industries, which develop solutions for circular economy in transition towards a zero-waste future.

Scholarships and Funding
Scholarships available at JYU
One top applicant in each international master's degree programme will be offered Finland Scholarship that covers 100% of the tuition fee and also includes a one-time relocation grant of 5000€. The rest of the eligible successfully admitted applicants will be offered JYU Scholarship which covers 50% of the tuition fee.
JYU Scholarship
JYU Scholarship is a university-level scholarship awarded by JYU rector's decision. Starting from 2024, the JYU Scholarship is automatically awarded to eligible admitted applicants, who applied for the scholarship. The JYU Scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee for the first academic year of studies. In order to receive the JYU Scholarship for the following year, students need to make sufficient progress in their studies (i.e., complete a minimum of 55 ECTS credits during their first year).
Finland Scholarship
Finland Scholarships awarded by JYU are part of a national scholarship programme. One Finland Scholarship is awarded to the most academically merited applicant in each Master's programme in accordance with the programme-specific admission criteria. Finland Scholarship covers 100% of the tuition fee for the first year of studies and also includes a one-time grant of EUR 5,000 towards living costs, which will be paid to the students after they have started their studies. In addition, JYU awards a 100% tuition fee scholarship for the second study year for all Finland Scholarship recipients who have made sufficient progress in their studies (i.e., a minimum of 55 ECTS credits during their first year). Please note that the recipient of Finland Scholarship cannot receive JYU Scholarship.
Fulbright Scholarship for U.S. students
Fulbright Foundation Finland together with JYU offers a Fulbright-University of Jyväskylä Graduate Award. The award is intended for a U.S. student admitted to one of the Master’s degree programmes at the JYU. Please note that the recipient of the Fulbright grant cannot receive the JYU Scholarship or the Finland Scholarship.

The alumni of CACE will meet the needs of experts in the growing fields of circular economy, forest and chemical industries to ensure the recovery, availability, and supply of materials needed by modern society. The expectation of graduates from CACE to find employment in their own field of expertise is high.
In addition to strong theoretical and practical chemistry skills required for circular economy, this programme will support you in developing your business, leadership and working life skills that include, for example time management, communication skills and social skills. This allows employment in private or public sectors as well as in academic research.
After graduation, you will be eligible to apply for Doctoral Studies in Natural Sciences.
