University of Houston-Victoria College of Arts and Sciences

This 36-hour graduate criminal justice program leads to a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. This program will prepare you with a foundation in advanced criminal justice studies and the tools necessary to enable you to advance more rapidly in your career. With this degree, you will be prepared for success in a variety of criminal justice careers such as law enforcement, corrections, and social services. The UHV criminal justice M.A. program is online, which makes it a great option for working professionals pursuing careers in the criminal justice field or for those who live outside of Victoria, Texas. There are two tracks, thesis and non-thesis. Both tracks require 24 credit hours of core coursework. The thesis track includes 6 hours of thesis research and coursework in addition to 6 hours of elective courses. Thesis research and coursework will give students experience in inquiry and research to prepare them for advanced studies at the doctoral level or further research opportunities. The non-thesis track requires 12 hours of elective courses and includes a comprehensive examination.

The UHV Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies is a unique program that combines multiple disciplines into a one-degree plan suited to your educational and career goals. With concentrations including two or more disciplines, you can fulfill needs that single concentration graduate degree programs cannot meet. The MAIS program also accommodates the working student, with classes offered evenings and online. A MAIS degree can open up a new career, job, educational, and personal development opportunities.

Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies

The Master of Science in Publishing is an academic degree program that focuses on the history, development, and current practice of publishing. The program integrates literary and cultural studies with practical skills that reflect the dynamic technological changes within the publishing industry. UHV supports an online community where students participate in distance learning through lectures, critiques, meetings, and interactive projects. UHV is the home of American Book Review, Cuneiform Press, Centro Victoria, The Society for Critical Exchange, and symploke. Working under the guidance of our nationally recognized faculty, you will explore acquisitions, book and magazine design, professional editing, publicity, marketing, and become familiar with cutting-edge software such as InDesign, Illustrator, and FontLab. Field trips, readings, guest lectures, and internships are at the core of this dynamic program. Courses are offered in English, History, Marketing, Communication, Curriculum & Instruction, and Management. Alumni from our program go on to become editors, published writers, directors of their own publishing houses, or enter the industry with a practical, intellectual foundation in the history of publishing as well as the skills necessary to compete in the job market today.
