The course trains highly qualified experts in territorial analysis and spatial development and management able to operate in the Italian and international labor market, and in particular in the field of development cooperation.

The specific objective of the master program is to provide advanced theoretical and methodological skills to understand and to intervene on the physical, economic, social and cultural processes which more directly affect the organization of the territory at different scales. Particular attention is devoted to topics such as analyzing and managing tangible and intangible cultural heritage, integrated planning and projects for territorial development, planning for sustainable tourism development, GIS, Remote Sensing and Big Data.

The set of training activities is framed within an international scientific and cultural vision with extensive references to extra-European areas. The course offers multiple opportunities to interact with cooperation projects in contexts such as Afghanistan, Armenia, Jordan, Myanmar, as well as opportunities for collaborative experiences with agencies, local authorities and associations in Tuscany and Italy. The international perspective of the course is enriched by the integration of classes held by visiting professors of internationally renowned fame.

The master program is incardinated in the SAGAS Department, selected in 2018 by the Ministry of Education and University Research (MIUR) as a department of excellence, and annually offers scholarships for students from abroad or from outside the region of Tuscany. Furthermore, the most successful students will be offered financial prizes and the opportunity to participate in the special Interdisciplinary Higher Education Program provided annually by the Program of Excellence. The master program also promotes useful experiences for entering the job market, including internships and traineeships. The educational offer is provided in close relationship with the two geographical Laboratories located in the Department: the Laboratory of Social Geography - LaGeS ( www.lages.eu ) and the Laboratory of Applied Geography - LabGeo ( www.geografia-applicata.it ).

Finally, the master program is included in the High Education Program „Partnership for Knowledge“ of the Italian Agency for the Development Cooperation (AICS).
