Introduction
This programme is ideal if you are looking to pursue a career in investment analysis or portfolio management. Established in 1973, this was the very first Master's degree in finance in the UK and over the past 40 years has gained an international reputation for providing excellent training and academic knowledge.
The programme has been accredited by the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) since 2008 and we are proud to also be a CISI Centre of Excellence. This means you have the opportunity to work towards a qualification from the CISI in addition to your MSc.
Your employability is the main focus for us so we include a range of additional activities to help to develop your transferable skills including:
A non-assessed intensive financial database training course delivered by the data specialists from well-known financial data providers such as Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters, Bureau Van Dijk, the Standard, and Poor’s Global Market Intelligence
Intensive company analysis workshop run by a practitioner to help develop practical investment understanding, augment presentation skills and provide an insight into current real-world information sources and techniques
This programme is designed to be flexible and is offered in either a nine or 12-month format:
The 9-month programme comprises 12 taught modules, five of which are compulsory modules that are taken in term one, and seven of which are selected from optional modules, and are taken during terms two and three.
The 12-month programme comprises nine taught modules, six of which are compulsory modules that are taken during terms one and two, and three of which are selected from optional modules, and are taken during terms two and three. Students also undertake a dissertation in term three.
The only difference between the 9-month and 12-month courses is that the 12-month course includes a dissertation. Students on the 9-month course take additional taught modules to make up these learning credits. Both programmes have exactly the same entry requirements and result in exactly the same award.
