Introduction
The Master’s programme in Field Archaeology on Land and under the Sea offers a comprehensive course in Field Archaeology. Through courses on the nature, the study, the documentation and the interpretation of archaeological artefacts and sites, On Land and Under the Sea, the students will acquire basic knowledge and hands-on experience on research methodology and techniques used in a broad and diverse scope of archaeological fieldwork. The programme’s purpose is to provide advanced knowledge and research training opportunities, necessary for the student’s professional career in archaeology.
The programme’s main objectives:
- High- quality post- graduate education,
- A comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to Cultural Landscape in Archaeology that considers terrestrial and maritime space as indispensable components of the Mediterranean Cultural Landscape,
- Connection between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation,
- Development of equipment operation skills, in the laboratory and the field,
- Training in essay writing,
- Practice in fieldwork methods and techniques.

- Archaeologists already working in the public sector (Archaeological Services or in Museums), need to optimize their professional performance in various aspects of fieldwork.
- Young archaeologists who wish to enhance their training and experience, in order to pursue a career in the public or private sector.
- Young researchers who need to expand their fieldwork activities or be trained in new/ specific methods and techniques.
- Non-archaeology graduates from domains that are closely linked to archaeology, wish to become familiar with archaeological fieldwork.

Scholarships and Funding
Postgraduate Study Scholarships for International Students at the University of Cyprus
Since its establishment in 1989, the University of Cyprus (UCY) has earned a strong reputation domestically, regionally, and internationally, and it has earned a prominent place in World University Rankings. Its focus on academic excellence, as well as research and teaching, is widely recognized. UCY, in line with its internationalization strategy and commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, offers a number of scholarships to qualified international candidates in the following interesting and specialized postgraduate programs:
- Master in Business Economics (total tuition fee: 10.000 euros)
- Master in Economic Analysis (total tuition fee: 5.125 euros) or PhD in Economics (total tuition fee: 4.000 euros for Master’s holders)
- Master in Artificial Intelligence (total tuition fee: 5.125 euros)
- Master in Teaching French as a Foreign Language (total tuition fee: 5.125 euros)
The scholarships will be awarded in the form of a deduction from the total amount of tuition fees of the selected postgraduate program. Candidates must meet the academic criteria and adhere to the admission requirements of the specific study program.
UCY is currently accepting online applications for admission in September 2024. The deadline for applications for the above-mentioned postgraduate programs is 14th June 2024, except for the Master in Artificial Intelligence, which has a deadline of 31st May 2024.

- ARC 654 Maritime Cultural Landscape (10 ECTS)
2nd Semester:
- ARCH 655 Shipwreck archaeology (10 ECTS)
- ARCH 661 Study of pottery and small finds (10 ECTS)
- ARCH 659 Scientific analysis of archaeological materials (10 ECTS)
3rd Semester:
- ARC 615 Practical Training in Field Archaeology (10 ECTS)
Program Outcome
The students are expected to:
- Comprehend interdisciplinarity in the study of the human past,
- Understand the particularities of the coastal zone and the sea, as a place of human activity and archaeological research,
- Get a grasp of the scope and methods of field archaeology,
- Acquire documented experience and the necessary skills for their future career in academia or the diverse domains of public and field archaeology,
- Familiarize themselves with real research conditions,
- Learn how to use tools and equipment,
- Learn how to conduct comprehensive research essays and write reports.
