University of Connecticut School of Business

Introduction

Founded in 1941, the mission of the School of Business is to create and disseminate knowledge that significantly influences and enriches the students, the community of business scholars and the global world of business practice. To that end, the School of Business has established a strong reputation for high quality research and academic programs, spanning a wide array of functional disciplines — Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Operations and Information Management. Its interdisciplinary centers in real estate, health systems management, international business, and entrepreneurship have gained widespread recognition for their research and service.

The UConn School of Business has developed into one of the most comprehensive business schools in the nation, offering academic programs at the bachelors, masters, doctorate and advanced certificate levels, spanning five Connecticut locations — Storrs, Hartford, Stamford, Torrington and Waterbury. The School’s location in the middle of the New York City – Boston corridor (the heartland of Fortune 500 territory) provides the program with a dense network of corporate partners and strong distribution for its graduates into the workplace.

In recent years, the School has evolved from a strong regional business school into one of broader reach, positioned to become one of the best public business schools in the nation. To lead this transformation, the School established a series of strategic priorities designed to build upon and enhance current strengths. It has continued and expanded its leadership role as a key intellectual resource for the business community in such diverse industries as information technology, managed health care and international trade.

Continuously accredited by AACSB International – the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, since 1958, the School’s
success has not gone unnoticed. The School ranks in the top 7 percent of business schools and is widely considered one of the best in the Northeast as evidenced in frequent rankings by Business Week, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal and U.S. News & World Report.

Looking ahead, business in the twenty-first century will occur in an increasingly complex environment of rapid change, particularly in the area of information technology. In this context, UConn’s School of Business — by creating knowledge that significantly influences managerial ideas and practices — educates present and future leaders to strengthen Connecticut’s businesses, the New England region, and our country’s global leadership.
